Meh - I don't believe it. Good just be sour grapes by the player who is now out of the NHL.
Lindholm will love Peters if he gets a chance to play with Gaudreau and Monahan, you can be sure about that. If there really is a problem there, well, he is a professional and he will suck it up.

I'm warming to a signing of Grabner. I think he'd be cheap. He's a RW, so that's sort of good (only sort of because he's a lefty). But he's fassssst and he did score 27. The reason he'd be cheap is he didn't get very much after being traded to NJ. Because while he scores, he sure doesn't get matching assists. He'd be a good PP guy.

There is a Peters connection with Grabner. Grabner played for the Spokane Chiefs while Peters was coaching there.
But nobody uses Grabner on the PP. In his 553 game NHL career he only has 7 powerplay goals out of 156 career goals. And all those powerplay goals were scored before 2013. 0 since 2013.
He only has 2 sog on the PP since 2014

That's odd. I would have thought he'd be a PP guy.

Scoring Winger

Grabner scores pretty much all of his goals off the rush and on breakaways, perfect 3rd liner because he generates his own scoring chances regardless of linemates. His speed isn't really all that useful on the PP.

^ Yeah, Grabner is more of a player that can give us chances on the PK more than the PP. That's something very valuable. He'd be a solid player to play with Backlund and Frolik.

Peters also gave Lindholm the 2nd most ice time on the team for forwards, might be just me but I think I would like him a lot... on the outside anyway!

This isn’t the get along league, this is the produce or gtfo league. Both guys are gonna be paid millions to do their job, they don’t need to like each other.

When I glanced over this post I thought you said you liked him because he was a fascist.
I think Grabner will get 5 million minimum.

My ideal signing would be one of JVR or Neal. I'd prefer JVR mainly because I hate Neal as a player. Right up there with Kesler in my book.
I think the Flames need to get a guy who can put up 45-60 points regardless of their linemates. A guy like Vanek, Perron, or Grabner are okay, but they are just secondary depth parts and are the types of players that you grab if you strike out in getting what you're actually looking for.
My preference overall for players to sign
1. JVR
2. Neal
3. Stastny (just to make things fun in the center ice position entirely)
4. Nash
5. Vanek
For depth parts
1. Filppula
2. Ryan
3. Then I guess Perron/Grabner

Peters on 960 says he also wants to try Bennett on the RW.

I agree with this but it is worth noting that Lindholm has some leverage here as an RFA. Flames can't make him sign a long term deal.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet, but Peters just threw Bennett out there as a top-line option he'd like to try as well as Tkachuk.
Also mentioned that he's watched video from 2 years ago in Brodie and Gio. Wonder if that is hopeful, or if this is a duo be thinks will be able to bring back what he just watched.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
They also brought up Derek Ryan with Peters and given how he mentioned "he's a western kid, gives us a leg up on him" suggests to me he's a target.
We already knew that, unofficially I suppose. Now its a little more real.
Edit - And there is now a thread. Let's discuss it there shall we

I wasn't too keen on the idea of Lindholm playing on the top line, thinking we need to develop a strong second line and spread out the scoring. However, I liked Peters comment that with Lindholm on the top line, they won't be afraid to match it up against the opponent's top line. One of weaknesses of the Flames, I've thought, is that the Gaudreau-Monahan line is not hard to play against and doesn't match up well against other team's top lines. With Lindholm slotting in, I'd be a lot more confident putting them out there against a Pavelski, Getzlaf, or Kopitar.

All this talk about using guys on their off-wing leads me to believe there is no real plan to bring in a legit top 6 RW.

Sounds like legit top line RWs are still too expensive, just like last offseason and the offseason before.
You have a ton of potential talent in your top 6 players already if you count Johnny, Mony, Tkachuk, Backlund, lindholm and Bennett as the top six skilled guys on the team
I think its a great idea to try tkachuk, bennett and lindholm on the top line and see what sticks. There is already pretty good chemistry there with Bennett (although Johnny switched wings last year) and I think we will all be pleasantly surprised by the level of improvement just by getting rid of GG.
If we add, then it wont be a top notch signing, Tre isnt gonna do that, especially with both Bennett (hopefully) and Tkachuk having bigger money deals kicking in after this season tying up a bunch of money in a JVR or Neal is just not wise

He is doing this in pre season for injury reasons. He said so on the 960 that he wants to experiment with lots of options to know he can go to those options if someone gets hurt.
For example: Backlund gets hurt, he knows he can put Lindholm at #2 C, move Tkachuk to top line RW, etc.

Well they aren't growing on trees.
There is no right shot RW in UFA class.
So are you willing to trade Bennett and/or Jankowski to acquire a veteran right shot RW? Cause i'm guessing you'd probably have to deal them both and add in a defense prospect to acquire an all star right winger.
