We are definitely a better defense without Wideman in the top 7. Hamonic will be fine and had a couple of very nice point shots, but just had some bad puck handling and luck on one play. Hamonic played with one team for a few years so we need to give him some time to adjust to a new team and he will.

That defense gave up way less chances and goals. Check the stats. I think people don't realize how bad this defence is.

It's annoying that this team gave up a first for Hamonic. Hamonic was bad last season and It's clear as day that this was a massive overpayment. Englelland was alot better. Hamonic looks like a more defensive Kris Russell. Gross

I don't think the D are capable of playing the system that is being force fed to them. When the sum of the parts is less than the whole it's time to look at who is organizing things.
Also, all the people who insist that GG is a genius because he follows Babcock and plays only R-L defensive pairings, take a look at the leafs top d pairing. Both lefties. Evidently player decisions don't have to follow inflezible rules to a fault.

I can't believe that I have to actually make an argument to explain why Travis Hamonic is better than Deryk Engelland.
You know what? I'm not bothering. It's ludicrous.
I think everyone needs to think back to the kinds of posts that were made about Engelland after his first 20 games with the team.
Outside of a handful of plays on the year, Hamonic has been nothing but solid. Compare that to what we've seen from guys like Brodie or Hamilton. We give guys who have been here a while the benefit of the doubt, but can't wait to trash new additions when they don't come in and play amazing right away.

Its not like the Flames had a chance to keep Engelland and passed for Hamonic so its kinda a pointless argument
I expect Hamonic to improve as a flame as time goes on...and yeah nobody liked Engelland or his contract 20 games in.

They are doing this with goalie #3 or 4 as well. It's incredible.
