No chance Pittsburgh takes that. Stajan has negative trade value. Why? Because he's got the value of waiver wire material. Try someone else for Hagelin.

I was at the game and barely noticed Crosby. It goes to show how amazing of a defensive centre Backlund is. He's critical to this team's success.

It's so refreshing attending a game knowing the goalie won't lose the game for the team. He actually may win the game for the team!

Tkachuk was an absolute steal at #6. He does it all.

Do you know the Penguins record on back-to-backs? Do you know the stat line of their rookie backup goalie? Do you know how many* goals we've scored this year?

This is not a run around the room jumping and screaming win. This is "whew, we aren't below .500 again thanks to Mike Smith and the our top guys".

This team has problems. Show me the evidence otherwise. Mike Smith stole that win.

When did it become a problem to be honest when you assess a performance? Why are so many posters jumping on me for this? I gave the credit where it was due. And I gave the criticism where it was due? When did we decide every fan had to be a complete homer or they were out of the cp club?

I think the complaints are your posts make it seem like the Flames were completely owned and Smith won it for them, when the stats show an even game that could have gone either way.

Like?

Pittsburgh's fourth-line centre is Greg McKegg and Hagelin also has zero value.

You're posting negative in a winning PGT. Just leave it alone. We've heard your opinion... we've entertained your opinion... we get it. I don't think you have a point after this game. I gave you MULTIPLE reasons this was a good game, and you countered none of them. Everyone watching the game can find things that could have gone better, but it's a team game that is full of mistakes and chances. Smile.

We were outplayed in the first, but we outplayed them in the 2nd and 3rd. So yeah, the shots were high. Thankfully, the goalie who stopped those shots also wears the same jersey as the players I cheer for, so I call that a win!

And excuses can fly from any direction. You'd be putting me on blast if I excused a loss on their 4 days off. Teams play back to back, and good ones find a way to win. Did you watch the Oilers game last night? They didn't exactly come to the Saddledome as a pillaged team...

And did you watch the game? Jarry wasn't that bad at all. He faced 34 SOG, and good handful of quality chances. For 2/3 of the game he was the busier of the goalies. Don't bend his talents to fit your narrative, we all watched the game.
I think you are missing the point.

A couple things, first - what made you think I needed to refute your points?

You gave some subjective arguments about some things you liked about the game. Why would I try to prove you wrong on those? I'm not trying to prove you wrong.

Saying I "endlessly post my opinion" quickly leads me to believe you don't actually know who I am as a poster on this site. You are lumping me into a group of obsessive negative posters to which I don't belong. You can click on my username and review my post history. It's ok if you are confusing me with someone else, but that ain't me.

I think we all know that people who post watch the games. I watched the game. I watch all the games. I think everyone here does. I don't think you find your way onto a niche forum like this without a near obsessive love of the sport and team. And further, I think we can all agree that saying "did you watch the game" isn't constructive. Just because my viewpoint is different than yours doesn't mean I couldn't have watched the game. Of course I did. And of course you did. That's silly.

In terms of the goalie and his talents, with the percentage this team is shooting at, the Flames could make any goalie appear to be more talented than he is. This is not Carey Price the Flames were shooting at tonight.

I just want you to know that I'm not trolling around on this forum. I'm a part of this community. I'm sorry we didn't see the game the same way tonight.

I'm happy about the win, but if you think this team is going anywhere playing like that, you're setting yourself up for a hurt, real bad.

Yes the first period was scary.
But you should acknowledge that they were able to come back in the second period a complete different team. Imagine how hard it would be to regroup after allowing 19 shots in the first period to the defending REPEAT Stanley cup champs, who were absolutely flying.

Credit to Smith for keeping them in it, and credit to GG and the team to rebound from that horrendous start. They were the better team in the second and third in my opinion and the corsi stats have been released and they actually finished the game with a higher percentage and also out chanced them.

Some people are just very hard to please i guess...

No one is going to want a veteran who's past his best, is now completely washed up and can barely even really skate anymore.

So....try Klimchuk, Lazar or Poirier and a 5th for Hagelin.

And Hagelin doesn't have any value but I'd think it's more value than Stajan has if for nothing else than because Hagelin can still skate a lot better and play hockey a bit better.

I'm starting to wonder how many cups and how much money Smith left on the table playing for that garbage franchise in Phoenix.

I've been around since Vernon, and he's one of the best this franchise has ever seen. It's a damn shame he spent all that time playing in Arizona.

The stats don't say that.

I'm sorry I don't have a reference for this, but my gut and memory tells me that teams that give up 40+ shots and score once in regulation are lucky to win in the NHL these days.

I may farm out a statistician in India to prove my point if this is overly contested.

I'm sure this is the most I've ever been quoted in a thread. Didn't mean to ruffle so many feathers, I'm genuinely surprised more people aren't seeing what I'm seeing.

just stop being so full of yourself - maybe listen to some of the pretty constructive criticism that has been said and try to improve your game = you spell endless doom and want the coach fired after they beat the two time defending Stanley Cup Champs. No one is saying the Flames had a perfect game - we all agree the first period was ####e, but we won and we are progressing. Jankowski looked better this game then any I have watched. Even Lazar had some nice plays and the old guy is just chomping at the bit to get into these game

and yeah our goalie was pretty good

This should probably tell you something about the disparity between what you are seeing and what is actually happening on the ice.

The numbers posted by Steinberg reflect pretty clearly that after a poor first period the Flames were probably the better team through the balance of the game:

After rough start, #Flames end up winning scoring chance battle. High danger chances 15-13, 5v5 possession 53.4%.

You know, you neither play for not coach this team right? Like what you say here has zero effect on how they play?

All you succeed in doing is sucking the joy out of the entire reason for spectating sport. You don't get that this is toxic for the people otherwise trying to enjoy a community board?

Like, maybe just complain once, and then find something productive to do with your life? Like examine why you even watch hockey in the first place?

Beat Pittsburgh 2-1 (ot), playoff odds up 4.1 to 35.3%

Did not play, playoff odds down 0.3 to 8.9%

Will take the win but wow, still lots to work on with this club. Not out of the woods by any stretch.

Scoring is a huge issue.
