Maybe, but Tristan Jarry was slated to be the stop gap. Maybe they wanted him to get starts in the AHL instead. Also a good back up option for next season behind Murray.

What is the obligation of these teams claiming these players? Can they just be re-waived in a month or do they need to remain roster players for a certain amount of time?

I thought when we waived Ortio last season there was talk of any team claiming him would have to keep him on their NHL roster for the rest of the season?

nope. I remember Zach Boychuk being waived two or three times by multiple teams over a couple of months. Not sure if you have to keep them for a minimum of games, bzt certainly not all season.

The only obligation IIRC is they need to keep the player in the NHL otherwise they need to put the player on waivers again.

The caveat being that if being put on waivers again and the original team is the only team that put in a claim his original team can put him in the minors without requiring waivers.

No time limit IIRC.

So for example if the Flames waive Ortio, the Oilers claim him, play him for 1 game then put him on waivers again. If the Flames were the only team that were to put in a claim, they could immediately assign Ortio to the minors.
