This deal is, frankly, market value for a guy who adds size and whom you expect will put up 20 goals. It's not a steal, but Treliving isn't always going to rob another team or agent blind.
I agree that it's market value. But the flames have 4 players that are overpaid this coming season.

Hopefully the kid contracts cone in really low and make this "over payment" seem like nbd

Ya and Huds is soft as baby ****. This team desperately needs to get harder to play against.

Maybe a bit of an overpayment but the Flames have to start moving in this direction with players of this style. Hanging all the hopes on the top 3 forwards and then offering no push back or leadership and being happy with anything the bottom nine forwards can provide is not a good recipe.

Comparing Glencross to Brouwer is a joke. Brouwer actually plays with grit and heart more than once every 10 games and not just against the Oilers. Two players are nothing alike.

Pretty happy with this signing, he's the type of player you hate playing against but love on your team. Welcome to the Flames!

Should have ask him to take a hometown discount. He is building a house here to retire and he was here at a gym doing some upside down yoga. Do not know how to post the pick but you can google it. I guess more upside down yoga for him

Like the signing. 1 year too long but that is being petty.
Great hard nosed addition.

It's the perfect example of using stats the wrong way. Not comparable at all

I understand the trepidation with any FA signing, especially for a physical winger over 30 who isn't purely skilled. However, I think people will realize that this is a perfect complimentary piece to make this team much more difficult to play against next year. Along with a guy like Chiasson, possibly Hathaway, a healthy Bouma etc.

Flames will be fast and skilled, along with a healthy dose of effective grinder type players. I am really liking the composition of this team heading into next year.

Brad Treliving has done a wonderful job so far filling the obvious gaps on this team. This is going to be a pretty fun team to watch this year, and should be in the playoff mix without much trouble.

One big plus for Brouwer is his durability. Glencross was definitely on the fragile side.

BTW, he's temporarily our highest paid forward.

Elliott and Brouwer, good luck Flames.

I like Calgary's roster.

That's a good signing. Good player, not crazy money or term.

It's nice to see a reasonable deal today.
Quote:
Best value signing of the day so far imo. Decent money and good term.
Quote:
wish the canucks got him
Quote:
AAV is a bit too high. term is ok which mostly mitigates that.
Quote:
This is one of the few good signings of the day.
Quote:
Not bad for Calgary.
Quote:
Just 4 years? Other GM's should be taking notes from Treliving.
Quote:
Nothing crazy but honestly i have a tough time seeing Brouwer living up to the deal when he's 33-34.

But it's only 4 years so it won't handicap the Flames by any means.
Quote:
Sad that the Flyers couldn't afford to offer him this, but this is a great deal for Calgary.
Quote:
Good signing.
Quote:
Considering the other deals today this ain't too bad.
Quote:
Good fit, but pricier than he should be. If he can stay in the top 6 for the duration of his contract it will be a good signing.
Quote:
Pfffssshh Its free agency. You're never going to win in this situation but its a good UFA signing

*puts on Oilers hat* bahahaha stupid Flames
Quote:
One of the more reasonable deals of the day.
Quote:
First longer contract today that isnt awful
Quote:
A touch overpaid but free agency what ya gonna do. Not so bad as Lucic or others.
From HF, sure not the place of brighest minds, but 90% of people there think it's a good, fair deal. Not a steal, but a fair contract.

Default Flames sign Brouwer (4 yrs, $4.5mil AAV)

Flames balked at basically this contract for Glencross and then gave a player with similar results the same deal 1 summer later

Edit: I see this comparison has been discussed in depth already
