A lot of young guys on the Flames.
Got a player who can play with good players and as importantly, provide leadership.
Good term ,good salary and no acquisition cost.
Good signing.

I'm not crazy about dollar and term but let's see what happens. If he keeps popping 20 goals and plays physical he'll be with it.

Looking at a similar comparable in Joel Ward, 4 years is absolutely fine. Have to stop looking at it like UFAs are going to easily agree to 2-3 year deals for pennies.
4.5M hurts but I suppose that's the cost of Brouwer losing out on an extra year. (18M over 5 years instead of 4 would've been 3.6M, much more attractive but for ANOTHER year?)

For that money, Brouwer won't be used in the bottom six. At least not at first.

Not a fan of Tre's signings so far over his time with the team. I think its his main weakness.

I hate to burst your bubble, but every team will always have at least one player who is overpaid or otherwise exists even though you hate them. If you're expecting the Flames, or anyone else, to ever have 23 perfect contracts, you're just deluding yourself.

This deal is, frankly, market value for a guy who adds size and whom you expect will put up 20 goals. It's not a steal, but Treliving isn't always going to rob another team or agent blind.

How many people that hate the move have watched much of Brouwer? The guy is a beast, a right handed, much more skilled Bouma. Total warrior, gives 110% every shift.

Surprised at the negative sentiment towards this deal. Brouwer is a consistent 20 goal guy and by all accounts checks the "character" box that I know Treliving values. 4 years is a good term and 4.5 million a season isn't bad.

Can't wait for Brouwer and mostly Elliott to pick on the Flames on how much they sucked against the Blues.

Brouwer has also won a Cup. That's important. I believe he and Frolik, and Bollig are the only cup winners we have.

Just a note: points aren't everything, and you don't simply win with points.

Goodness.

I really think people are overreacting here. Brouwer is a solid player who will be 34 when his contract expires.

Frolik is also a way better hockey player than Brouwer, IMO.

I don't particularly like the Frolik deal either.
