Bennett+Hudler and a Pick would be the most I would trade as well. It would work well in Calgarys favour, but even at this I doubt Tampa would do it.

Hudler is up for free agency as well, and will be looking to get paid, which he definitely wont be getting in Calgary.

Bennett is a one of the Flames best young asset, however there is no chance he develops into a players like Stamkos.

Someone try this trade on NHL 2016 and let me know if it works.

Bennett+Hudler+1st for Stamkos is in Tampa's favor but I could see why they'd decline. They're probably looking for young, controllable assets over another pending UFA.

I'd love to see the Flames not trade for Stamkos and him reach UFA. He'd be the biggest free agent of all time you'd have to think. He'll be 26 by July 1st. The best goal scorer in the league after Ovechkin. Captain of his team. What other true superstar #1 centers have ever reach UFA status at that age? Hard to think of one. Definitely none since the '04 lockout.

It would be interesting to see what the absolute max a player could get on UFA day is. Stamkos certainly would.

...quality players are expensive. Hudler and Russel are rentals for a stanely cup run for Tampa because Drouin isn't ready to be top line, but Hudler would look great with Stamkos. They also upgrade their top 4 defense, so Tampa is clearly better for the trade this year. And the Flames take back cap space to make it work.

Its a gamble if the flames finish 30th, 29th or 28th...but Drouin give this team a solid top 6 for a decade to come.

Meh...I think you're overvaluing hudler and russel.

i doubt either of russel or hudler will be on the team next year. And the flames are still in a rebuild. Whether they make the playoffs or not, neither russel or hudler should be here by the end of the trade deadline.

With the Lightning having to re-sign a lot of their young talent I don't think they would move Drouin at all as he is a young asset they can keep for cheap for 2-4 more years before he really gets paid

i dont think we should trade hudler yet , one of the veteran dmen has to go or backlund, we could also do without stajan or bollig both are useless . also i wouldnt mind seeing bennett on the top line with johnny and mony for a game or two lol

I disagree that Stajan is useless. He's typically a good faceoff guy, a good character guy, and if we do manage to get into the playoffs this year ( I know it's looking grim this early on) he's a good guy there too.

Isn't Stamkos the kind of player we hope Bennett turns into one day? Consistent top 5 scorer year over year, game breaker, etc.

I wouldn't have any issue sending Bennett to Tampa for Stamkos in that respect.

Calgary's cap situation going forward would be more challenging though with Stamkos in the fold. It's still a good move for the Flames I think as they'd have a known quantity in Stamkos who is still young. The Flames would have to add.
