What do you think of these 3 deals for Glencross
STL
Berglund
Cole
CGY
Glencross
Reinhart
or
STL
Rattie
Vanelli
Berglund
CGY
Glencross
Hanowski
2016 cond 1st (if they make playoffs, 2nd if they miss)
or
NYI
Mayfield
Pelech
2015 4th
CGY
Glencross
Ramo

Eww..
Edit: had to jet and couldn't finish my thought. Why would Stl make any of those deals? For a disinterested Glencross and outside the first trade idea, for our spare parts?
And the NYI deals, I have Ramo at a higher trade value.

Why is Glencross disinterested? If he was doing to waive, I'm sure he'd be interested in going somewhere like St Louis.

One should have been trading picks and one should have been acquiring them. Sutter actually won his deals as well. Kipper was easily one of the best trades in franchise history. Tanguay had 81 PTS year Sutter acquired him. Cammalleri out of LA had the best season's of his career. Bourque put up career numbers with back to back 27 goal seasons. Marcus Nilson was a big part of our run to the Cup. Sutters trades allowed for the most exciting hockey Flames fans have seen in the last 25 years.
But ya back to Chris Stewart...no thanks. Risk/reward isn't there IMO.

I wonder if the acquisition of Shore might cause the Flames to not push for Stewart now if Shore slides over to the wing.

I watched my first Buffalo Sabres game of the season the other day, while out at a pub with a buddy who is a Sabres fan.
I ended up asking him "Who the heck is number 80? He's just shockingly bad, like Oilers-level of not giving a ****."
The answer? Chris Stewart.

Friedman still claiming the Flames are looking at Stewart. In Friedman's mind a couple of "not big prospects" should get a deal done.
http://www.nicholsonhockey.com/worth...ruins-senators
Quote:
“Chris Stewart is one of the most frustrating players in the entire league. Because he has the gifts. He’s a gifted player. He has the size. He has power. He has skill. He’s not the fastest guy in the world, but he can get there. And it’s always been motivation.
“You look at teams that have had him. Colorado gave up on him. St. Louis gave up on him. And now Buffalo is about to give up on him.
“He had a game this year against Boston where he picked a fight against Milan Lucic, and there’s no question why he did that. He wanted to show the Bruins, ‘I’m worth getting.’
“Part of it has been his salary, as a guy making $4.25 million. That’s a lot easier for teams to absorb later in the year, as opposed to the beginning. Part of it I think is what Tim Murray was asking for at the beginning of the year. But I think that now it’s almost like just a couple of not big prospects can get this done, but teams just aren’t sure.
“Nashville was looking at him. Calgary is obviously looking at him. Boston has been looking at him. Ottawa has been looking at him. He’s a polarizing player, and it’s particularly because of what you said about last night. He doesn’t look like he gives a lot of effort on a lot of nights.
“This is the kind of guy – if he was able to be 50 percent better than he is, he’d be locked up long-term at pretty good money. But teams are very wary of him.”
|
Friedman also makes a good point that Stewart could be richly rewarded in the UFA market if he could put together some a good run to end this season, but he isn't doing that.

If we could get Stewart for a Reinhart type of guy I wouldn't be too opposed, but I wouldn't want to give up a Granlund or Baertschi for him. Maybe some kind of combination with two of Reinhart/Hanowski/Agostino/Mid-round (3-5) pick but otherwise I don't think he'd be worth the risk.

It was the same story with his brother, Anthony. I don't think he's going to change so the question is, will we be happy with his sometime effort? Of course if CP is looking for whipping boy, he's our man.

Jebus, just get the darn deal done then and let him get Hartley'ed into a new contract or fade away at the end of the year. Sick of this rumor.

Chris Stewart would almost be worth getting just so he doesn't score against us anymore. I'll never forget his hat trick against Hank Karlsson, and he potted one the other night.
Could Hartley get something out of him that others can't? I'm sure his motivation is low due to the fact he's been involved in 2 years of solid tanking. He might be dynamite in a playoff run, but he's far from a sure-fire contributor.

I feel like Reinhart and Hanowski have long term potential that outweighs the likely average effort of Stewart. A mid round pick, or Cundari type player likely doesnt get it done but would be all I would be willing to give up. A leopard rarely changes it spots so they say.

Reinhart maybe makes the NHL one day, but I just don't see how Hanowski does. Stewart is an NHL player. Disinterested one? Yes. But still an NHLer.

I'd be OK with the Flames picking up Chris Stewart if they in turn sent out Curtis Glencross.
The Flames are in an odd position. They're a rebuilding team that wants to acquire assets for pending UFA's but they're also a team that is battling for a playoff spot.
Bringing in a guy like Stewart for a couple prospects doesn't fit the MO of a rebuilding team and moving a guy like Glencross out doesn't fit the MO of a playoff team, but combined I think it could work very well for the Flames.
I think realistically Glencross would bring in more, or at least better, pieces than you'd ship out to bring in Stewart, but you'd still bring in a guy who could bring a lot of the same things that Glencross brings, mainly the floating and offensive zone penalties... (I joke because I love)
Stewart's size and position would help balance out the Flames forwards who are loaded on the left side throughout the organization. Plus it would be fun to see what Hartley could get out of the guy.

I agree with your points, but there is zero chance that Glencross waves his no trade to go to Buffalo.
Edit: sorry reread your post. Yes Glencross's return coukd outweigh the potential cost.
