Regardless, Stewart is Rene Bourque part deux. Stay away.
|
He's Rene Bourque part deux, but you'd have no problems giving up Reinhart + 3rd? Just throw away some assets for the hell of it?
Why? To what end does Stewart help us? He's played under some great coaches in his career, and they haven't been able to fix him. There's no reason to expect it'd be any different here.
Players like Bourque and Stewart... you want to give these players away.
I'll take my chances with a lottery ticket 3rd rounder.

Not always 2nd rounders. He only gave up a 7th for a "Broken Down Freddie Modin" as Feasted referred to him.

I know it's against the grain but if what Friedman says it would be cheaper for the flames to pick him up I'd do it. I'm not sure what I'd give up for him. He's a big body with moments of greatness. I'd like to see what Hartley could try and squeeze out of him. It's not like we are hurting for cap space. If it was maybe a B prospect and mid to late draft pick I'd do it.

No thanks to Christ Stewart at any cost. This team doesn't need disinterested players.

I'm saying if that's all Buffalo was asking, Stewart would be gone already. The league knew what Bourque was when they dealt him to Montreal, and the Habs gave up Cammalleri for him. Some team will be willing to take a gamble on getting the most out of Stewart, and they'll give up a lot more than a 3rd round pick and a guy who's looking like a career AHLer to do it. I just don't want the Flames to be that team.
Understand?

Do you know how stupid this sounds when one realizes Feaster acquired more 2nd rounds picks than he traded away?

Stewart's been around the league far more than Bourque had when we traded him away. His reputation is just as bad.
I question the general manager who makes a trade for Stewart.
Also, Reinhart has not been nearly as poor as his stat line suggests. Watch the games and not the score board.

That's what autocorrect turns Feaster into.

When Bourque was traded he had just come off of 3 consecutive 20 goal seasons. His 3 seasons before that trade were
Year GP G A PTS
08/09 58 21 19 40
09/10 73 27 31 58
10/11 80 27 23 50
Even the year that he was traded he was on pace for 28 goals
His PPG in the previous 3 seasons was 0.7 PPG
There is a pretty good case to be made that Bourque was a much better at the time of the trade than Stewart is right now.
Either way I agree with you, Stewart is awful and even Reinhart and a 3rd would be too much. I would rather wait until the offseaon and sign him to a 2 year deal or something if Treliving wanted to take a chance on him.

Well Autocorrect needs to grow the hell up. Probably a returning poster.

Is it a coincidence that the Stewart talk comes out the same day McGrattan gets waived?
Big tough RW out, big tough RW in?
Character wise, McGrattan is way better than Stewart, but player wise, Stewart would be a big upgrade on McGrattan.

Stewart talk started in December, and this topic was bumped because Friedman made some more comments on it before McGrattan on waivers was announced.

Bad trades are still bad trades. The best of which we have Erixon to thank for and the scouts for turning the picks into solid prospects. Now if only he didn't throw the other two 2nds away we might have two additional solid prospects in the system as well.

The only way I would be ok with getting Stewart is if we send a loser back in return (aka Jones).

If you want to rip a former Calgary GM for trading away 2nd-round picks, you should really pick on Sutter.

Scoring Winger

I'd rather have Drew Stafford from Buffalo
6"3, 214 lbs, 29, RW. He's solid for 40-45 points when healthy. He's a good leader and has some strength.
I'd also love Patrik Berglund. Great two way player that I think will do really well under Hartley.
What do you think of these 3 deals for Glencross
STL
Berglund
Cole
CGY
Glencross
Reinhart
or
STL
Rattie
Vanelli
Berglund
CGY
Glencross
Hanowski
2016 cond 1st (if they make playoffs, 2nd if they miss)
or
NYI
Mayfield
Pelech
2015 4th
CGY
Glencross
Ramo

You don't get decent players for Glencross. Or Ramo. Both are UFAs. You get prospects and/or picks. Just like with Iginla, etc.

Honestly, I would rather have David Jones than Chris Stewart. That's how far he has fallen.
