Treliving was a nice guy as well. I talked to him before it started. Introduced himself, very friendly.
Had a great time there. I won a jersey, my wife won a bag with various goodies.

Were you the guy he said "You're Brodies Dad." to when you stepped up to the mic? Because that confused the hell out of me, thought he was talking about TJ!

Yes that was me. I had my son with me when I met King, Burke and Treliving beforehand. I've met King several times, we have a good rapport. i thought it was really cool they remembered my son's name
I thought it was Burke who said it but my wife says it was King. I can't remember haha

what else...confirmed that the team refused to wear the 3rd jersey, spoke to gio afterwards and told him it was one of the most embarrassing things he could remember in his career.
treliving said filitov swore he would never play in the khl during his draft meeting, poked treliving in the chest emphatically, then signed over there 2 years later.
|
What's the story with this? I'd never heard they actually refused to wear that thing.

It was when the flames were on a 4 game win streak or so. Hartley asked Burke if the flames could wear the regular home jerseys because the team felt superstitious about the 3rds. Burke said he'll see what he can do, then later gave them the ok. Flames won I believe. It kinda skips my memory right now.

It was the 5 game home stand, they had won the first four and were scheduled to wear the 3rd's for game 5 of the home stand.

During the lunch session, in speaking about Baertschi, Burke said something along the lines of "we're not sure what we have with him yet".

He said something like, "He's a great kid. If you had him over for dinner, you'd love him."
He also said that he watched a lot of Sven prior to his draft year because the Leafs had Brad Ross in Portland and the Leafs had him rated highly.

Good on you for speaking up.
I still find your trade to be ridiculous. I wouldn't trade Gio straight up for #1, let alone adding one of our top prospects to take on cap-dump Brian Campbell. I would MAYBE do Gio for both, but I doubt Florida would and I personally think trading Giordano is the height of stupidity.
I understand the want/need to buy low/sell high, which is great stock advice, but it doesn't take into account Giordano's positive impact on the team as a whole and not just as a point-getting asset.

A couple of things Treliving said about guys:
He said that Sieloff was his all-time favourite pre-Draft interview. He didn't really go into details about what made Sieloff his favourite, but he said that he was disappointed knowing that he was likely to be a "tweener" pick who went somewhere between two of Phoenix's picks that year.
He also talked about them bringing Monahan down to Phoenix last year for an interview before the Draft. He said he told Sean that they really liked him, but it looked like there was no way he'd end up in Phoenix because they knew he wouldn't drop to 12th, and no one in the top-5 was willing to trade down. He joked that the only way the Coyotes would be able to draft Monahan was if he planted a bunch of drugs in his luggage and hoped he got caught. He said that he called Sean after he was hired and told him that since Sean didn't go to Phoenix, Brad had to come to Calgary.

This is great. So far I really like Treliving, seems like a good dude.

Treliving talked about trying out for the Nucks, his home town team while Burke was with them. Burke told him the only way he was going to get into the Pacific Coliseum, was to buy a ticket. Treliving knew he was not going to make it. Burke also mentioned that Treliving fought Gino Odjick at that training camp, the only guy to do so, but he still didn't make it.
This was at yesterdays noon lunch.

I was at the session and agree with Treliving's assessment that Gio is going nowhere (which generated applause). To add to that, Sven has shown flashes of greatness, you don't give up on a prospect after an off year. He is still a young man and if he finds the focus to perform every night, look the f out.

Did trellising say that about Sven? Or is that you saying that?

Another thing that Burke mentioned yesterday -- after they traded a fourth rounder for Colborne last year, he put an embargo against Feaster on trading away any more draft picks. After Feaster left, he put that same embargo against himself.
Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but I thought it was interesting...
