I question if Taylor Hall can be coached, or whether he is only successful when he's out there 'feeling it'.
He plays like he's all alone on the ice. High amount of skill when he does see someone, but most of the time he's a horse with blinders on.
Also, Lindros-itis, always looking down at his skates/the puck.

Haven't they been doing that since the start of the season?

Only if there's not some undersized forward available with lots of fancy video game stickhandling moves.
The Oilers really are hopeless.

Issue is the young Oilers forwards do not seem to be developing.
Hall hasn't really developed, Eberle is not as good as he was two seasons ago, RHH development seems to have stalled due to the injuries.
Lots of style and flash but no substance. They don't play as a team, no real grit, and they don't support each other.
They actually remind me of the 09-12 Flames. The water looks clear and ready to drink but something is poison.

For some reason I found that the only hockey on tv was the Habs / Oil game, so I started to watch it. I think part of me was curious how in the hell these idiots drafted 3 top overall picks, have 4 extremely gifted young forwards and yet still struggle so badly. It's pretty amazing they are still bad. And they are!
The main thing I noticed is no puck support. Like, at all. If an Oiler gets the puck, it's him vs. the world. The other players are like not even on screen! I don't even know where they go, they look like they just skate away.
God, what an awful, awful, terrible team. It's really quite something. And hilarious.
|
I screen capped this because it is 100% accurate and I'm totally going to throw it in all my Oiler buddies. I think the answer of why they are so bad is that their young forwards have been bred to accept a culture of losing. When you teach them losing is okay, even for just a few seasons to get some blue chippers, that stank is hard to wash off. I love what Feaster/Weisbrod have done. Yes, we'll likely not keep up out current pace, but every player brought in has been taught to play hard to win, and not accept losing even if all the experts predict a 30th place season. Also, we were pretty much the only team not to mail it in at the end of last season and ended up with a pick outside the top 5. But the hockey gods are funny, and so far (yes, only 4 games I realize) we have a potential Calder candidate. I could watch the trainwreck that is the Oilers everyday and still be entertained.

They definitely need to trade one of their kids. They just handed them everything, treated them like rockstars, anointed themselves an impending dynasty .... #### they even had a hero worship tv show. Those kids are so entitled that the only way to save some of them might be a big shakeup trade.
I for one hope Lowe & Co continue with the zero accountability clubhouse they've got up there.

It can be done. But they refuse, and it's just so glorious that they do.
|
Oh yeah. Too greedy. They need all the skill in the world up front. Yet somehow that's more important to them than winning some games. Like a stubborn little child amused by shiny things.
Instead they flip the coach every year out of denial. Go into each new season with the same cocky attitude thinking that the offense will carry them all the way to kingdom come. Then it all comes crashing down more painfully each time. And yet, through it all, they STILL don't learn.

Maybe Edmonton needs to start testing their draft picks for brains instead of just grabbing the flashiest mini mite player in the draft.
Frankly I think that while Hall has a big body and a nice skill set the guy is just not a smart hockey player. I also think Nail isn't all that bright out there. He was ok last year but really had one good spurt that made him look better then he is.
Poor Ocktober, what a come down from playing for a Stanley Cup contender, I might have to question his errr hockey IQ for signing with that terrible franchise.

It would be awesome to see the Oilers drafting 1st for the 4th time in 5 years, with the one they missed being MacKinnon / Jones

That would be good. I bet they'd take a forward too. So for a guy like Darnell Nurse, does he realize how heavy the burden is on his shoulders?
He is THE future defenceman for that team. That's it! He's gotta be great! No other options!

Can't wait for the inevitable Canucks disappointing season, resulting in Fonzie's firing and it hopefully being the last we see of that goof.
