You know, a guy loves to rag on the Oilers but it's because it's so easy.
For some reason I found that the only hockey on tv was the Habs / Oil game, so I started to watch it. I think part of me was curious how in the hell these idiots drafted 3 top overall picks, have 4 extremely gifted young forwards and yet still struggle so badly. It's pretty amazing they are still bad. And they are!
The main thing I noticed is no puck support. Like, at all. If an Oiler gets the puck, it's him vs. the world. The other players are like not even on screen! I don't even know where they go, they look like they just skate away.
God, what an awful, awful, terrible team. It's really quite something. And hilarious.

Perhaps Hall could've stood up for himself after he was done faking hurt to draw the major.

Oilers fans on HF were complaining that the Flames always get a team after they play the Oilers. Well how about the day after the play the Flames and a backup and still a loss. Taste it greasers.

One of these days, a good team will simply fall into their lap.
Too bad everyone will be making $6M per and they won't be able to fit them under the cap.

The Edmonton Almost.
Hall "almost" splits the defense. Yakupov "almost" had a break away. Oilers "almost" don't suck.

How much longer until the media starts to turn on the "young, exciting, skilled" Oilers?

Also, I don't know why or how they haven't figured this out, but there is more than one position in the game of hockey. So maybe take one or two of your star forwards and spread the wealth?
It can be done. But they refuse, and it's just so glorious that they do.

Not only that, but their good young players like playing on the perimeter, and try to fire long passes through the middle of the offensive zone.
I mean they do a lot of things that look right pretty, but they really don't threaten that much.
Their defensive play is on a whole other level of bad.
Eakins is already going grey, I think its going to be a long year for him.
I mean in 4 games after training camp, they can't seem to grasp a system. Either they're a team with a collective iq of 6 or they just aren't listening to their coach.

Nylander wouldn't play in Edmonton. He'd turn it down just like his Dad did a few years ago.

Exactly and yeah that's the part I'm trying to figure out. Is it a system issue or player issue? There's no way the system has that little support for the puck, or like you say perimeter play? It's so weird but you'd think young players would listen to their coach?

I truly believe the Oilers need to trade everyone and start fresh.
The losing culture is ingrained. It is incurable.

I question if Taylor Hall can be coached, or whether he is only successful when he's out there 'feeling it'.
He plays like he's all alone on the ice. High amount of skill when he does see someone, but most of the time he's a horse with blinders on.
Also, Lindros-itis, always looking down at his skates/the puck.
