Lifetime Suspension

Report: A-Rod could be facing a lifetime ban

According to CBS Evening News’ Jim Axelrod, Alex Rodriguez could be facing a lifetime ban from MLB.
Ryan Braun was given a 65-game suspension on Monday for his involvement in the Biogenesis PED clinic and reports from ESPN have stated that the evidence against A-Rod is "far beyond" what Major League Baseball investigators had on the Brewers star. Rodriguez is presumably going to attempt to work out a deal with the commissioner's office, but if MLB has enough evidence it could look to push the 37-year-old third baseman out for good. There's much more to come.

Personally I hope not. So he used drugs and hid the fact. He should be punished for a year, but lifetime? It's almost a favor to the Yanks to get out from under his contract. He doesn't deserve that harsh a punishment necessarily and the Yanks don't deserve to get out from the contract. The only plausible explanation I can conger up is that he was peddling drugs for other players, but I find that incredibly hard to believe. I'm guessing it's a BS rumor.

It's easy to give a lifetime ban to someone who is 37 years old. It makes the MLB look tough on drugs but it's not as severe as it seems.

For sure, but again, it also absolves the Yanks from the contract which you know A-Rod will play out. I would prefer if all those involved were suspended for a year to the point that their skills would be diminished by the time they returned, but I don't think using drugs and getting caught one time deserves the lifetime ban. Guys like Bonds and McGuire and Sosa deserved much more than a 1 year suspension IMO, but that's another story.

If I owned another team I would be pissed if the Yankees got the gift of getting out of that contract through a lifetime ban. I think he gets 100 games or something like Ryan Braun got.

Yeah, the Yankees will be the ones pushing hardest for a lifetime ban on Rodriguez. The rest of the AL East is wishing for him to be taking up 30 million dollars of payroll space a year as a bench guy.

As a fantasy owner of Matt Garza....I too am disappointed by this news. Would have much rather had Garza pitching in Oakland than Arlington.

As if it weren't bad enough for A-Rod...

“We are in America. We have rights,” said Silva, as she pointed to leaky faucets, broken pipes, rusting bathtubs and a window that had fallen on a resident who was taking a shower.
The complexes, which contain about 1,000 apartments, were sold last spring and turned over to a new management company, Newport Property Ventures, owned by New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.
Residents, who have filed hundreds of complaints with the county alleging serious problems with rodent infestations, mold, crumbling floors and ceilings, say the firm has not responded.

Alex Rodriguez has been offered a deal by the MLB, either admit your guilt and be suspended for the remainder of this season and the next otherwise you face a lifetime suspension.
I feel it would be in A-Rods best interest to admit guilt, plus that way the Yankees won't be freed from that nightmare of a contract.
Quote:
The New York Daily News reports that Major League Baseball is hoping to cut a deal with Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, to suspend him for the remainder of this season and all of next season without pay.
The newspaper adds that if Rodriguez refuses the suspension, it's expected that Commissioner Bud Selig will pursue a lifetime suspension for him and an announcement could come late Monday or Tuesday.

Didn't he admit to different drug use in 2009?

^ Can't remember. I think there were admissions of using recovery creams, but I don't know for certain. All I clearly remember are these guys claiming they had never used to their knowledge, or pleading the 5th. They could one day fully come out and I'd just shrug my shoulders and move on. I've never had much of a problem with players using it when there was no testing in place, because a ton were and everyone was seeing the crazy results. The problem I've always had was the lying and denials. I respected what Pettitte did by coming out and laying it all out there. In fact I thought more highly of him than I did before he got caught. You seen the authenticity of his remorse.
