The score is a laughing stock as well.

Please someone remind me why we've got Begin in the lineup.

What exactly is his role? why can't an AHLer fill his position?

Just 20 more games to go until the Flames hit the Golf course, and watch the Playoffs from the outside. As per usual.

TSN, Sportsnet and CBC also laugh at us on a regular basis. I agree with your comments on the Score, but the Flames are the laughing stock of the canadian hockey media, and they've earned it.

Likely because we lack NHL ready prospects, even for 4th line duty would be my guess.

There are a number of bright spots the rest of the way as far as schedule goes:

1) Home games left include the Blues, Canucks, Coyotes, Ducks and Red Wings. With any luck they lose all of those games;
2) The other three games are against the Oilers who will be in a playoff race, Avs on the second half of back to back games (Flames record in those games is 1-3 this year) and the other is the Blue Jackets who have been playing well;
3) The rest are on the road, road games are almost unwinnable;
4) The road games left include 4 that are on the back half of back to back games;

If things break the Flames way they could go as low as 6-14 over their remaining games, which would almost certainly be good enough for 1st overall.

Flyers and Sabres have a majority of their games left at home, where they have both had more success. They should be out of sight soon enough. Washington is playing better. The real competition is going to be Florida and Colorado, not sure if they can suck enough.

"NHL ready" is such a cliché.

Begin is not NHL material, he really isn't. Neither is Mcgrattan.

I agree with the Begin comment, not the Mcgrattan, he's effective at his role and this team needs that.

Who replaces Begin though? Bouma obviously if healthy, but after that, who's ice time is Begin taking that we want to develop as a 3rd / 4th line grinder? I will admit to not being the best source on our AHL team, but I can't think of one.

Isn't carter banks a good forechecking energy player? Why not give him a shot. Instead of signing a 36 year old off of hip and knee injuries.

The Heat are pretty small as well, we are just a small organization. I would try Bancks just because it would be nice for him to play a NHL game.

My question to you or anyone else would be "What does Begin do effectively"?

He does nothing effective in my opinion. Aliu would fit way better and at least agitates.

You don't even have to look in the AHL, just don't play him. Cervenka or Blair Jones are way more effective. He's completely useless.

Aliu.

I have nothing against Steve Begin, and I have no idea if Aliu will ever amount to anything at the NHL level.

I would just rather have the 23 year old getting 5-10 minutes of 4th line ice, as opposed to the soon to be 35 year old.

If the team was good, I could understand it a bit. But it isn't good, and I'd rather be testing the waters with players who in 5 years time will still be 25-30 years of age, not 40.

How do you try out players when every game matters

This is our team, we gotta support it not trash it. It's also sickening to hear all all these "trade Iginla" chants, he's the captain, heart and soul of this team and he isn't going anywhere I hope. If he does it'll be a sad day for Calgary. I'd like to see the look on your face when Mackinnon becomes a bust and you will be stuck with watching Peverley on a daily basis.
I didn't know your where on CP Jay.

I was still optimistic until today - scoring 2 shorthanded goals and still losing ... wow

those seats are still sold though....so its rather meaningless other than a few grand lost in concessions and parking revenue.

They dont require empty seats to know whats going on, they arent idiots. They DO need to have the cajones to do what needs to be done.

However I am on the side of not letting feaster drive over that cliff though as i question his abilities of simple things after the ROR fiasco...so its a rock and a hard place time.
