I have to say I disagree. I think people over-react to things like this. Yes, okay... the 1% of the time you don't have an internet connection you can't play.
That said, the depth and intricacy of the simulation and the gameplay look just amazing and something I have been waiting for in this genre since I was a kid.
Bring on SimCity!

What? Cities are smaller sure but just think of it a different way, make a 16-city PRIVATE region and build it such that your "City" is the interconnection of all of the smaller cities.
It sucks in some ways that you need a net connection but this is not a huge problem now and will become less and less of a problem as wireless internet becomes more ubiquitous.
I think calling a SimCity unnecessarily complicated is a little odd. Most Sim players crave depth of simulation. I think they are doing an amazing job with this aspect.

Sandbox games are wicked. This one will be too. If you don't want to play with others, just create a private region. By reducing playability you must mean the always-connected issue, because I think in many ways the new SimCity will be a lot more "playable" than others. I am REALLY looking forward to making my own region, regions with my niece and nephew, regions with my friends, regions with strangers... not to mention tons of different types of cities. DRM pisses me off but sometimes I think not playing games (of which you are a huge fan) because of DRM is cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Now, I have some concerns like the rest of you but I think this is essentially the game we have been waiting for, for a very long time.

According to notebookcheck, you would have trouble running games from 3 years ago at 640x480 on low settings with that card.

If you are looking for a laptop upgrade that plays games well and won't break the bank, the Lenovo y580 is the best price/performance laptop available. At least until that deal is rescinded.

Not in the market for a new laptop... crap.
My current laptop has zero issues and isn't really designed for gaming, I was just hoping.

Wow this game looks like a gem, cool screenshots. The police station beside the donut shop was a nice touch. I need to get started on saving for a desktop.

Or are the other cities in your region simulated and not real people? Or maybe you have the choice of either?
|
You have the choice it seems like.
Quote:
You can set your region to private and never interact with other people, or you can play exclusively with friends or join a public region.

Who knows what the public region is, whether you connect to it every time or what. It sounds really cool, but I'm a bit skeptical on how well their algorithms work.
Another thing is this:
Quote:
Players will be able to specialize cities on certain industries, such as manufacturing, tourism, education, or others. Each of which have distinct appearances, simulation behavior, and economic strategies.[24][35] Players have the option to heavily specialize on one or build multiple specializations in any given city for diversity.
|
It SOUNDS like a button you press, like a skill tree where you specialize in a specific industry. That would be stupid, because I'd rather have my specialization be decided based on my planning decisions and policy decisions rather than clicking a button. If I wanted education, maybe I build a bunch of universities, tourism I'd have casinos and landmarks.
I dunno. Maybe someone that's in the beta can say something about it.

I want the concept of this game so damned badly. I'm really, really nervous about what EA & Maxis might manage to do to it.
I never recovered from the hype machine and subsequent psychological damage that was Spore, with respect to EA, Maxis, Wil Wright, etc.

Or the good stuff is going to be overshadowed by a few bad things that will make the game a no-go for the long time Sim City fans.

Well, even if Sim City is a bust, I've heard rumours that another Civ expansion will be coming out in Q3, so this year shouldn't be a total crapfest!

They really need Sim Copter for a game like this where you can fly a helicopter over your city.
Or Sim Grand Theft Auto where you can drive a car through your city or start a crime/arson spree to test your law enforcement and fire fighting strategy.

I would be happy with a release SDK or Steam Workshop (on Origin...) so users could make that content themselves.
