So I bought it from the Apple store straight out and unlocked. What I'm wondering is where you guys found your reservation #?

I'm using it now and you can can either check your @me.com emails on your iOS devices or at iCloud.com. You can also choose to forward them to whatever other email you want.

Some good questions. I'll take a crack at some of them (pure speculation)
1. You could use your me.com email address if you wanted, but my guess is it'll probably just sit there for most people. I have a me.com email that I've never had to use other than an account verification thing.
2. Great question that I've never thought about. Could you have two apple id's on one device? If no, could you send iMessage messages to yourself? This could be an issue for people like you (and me).
3. I would assume it's similar to FaceTime where you're given a list of your email addresses and asked to pick one for people to use. I use my gmail as a FaceTime account name.
4. I want to say that if you send to a non iMessages user it goes through the standard sms app.
I could be dead wrong on all of those. Just me guessing.

2. Does anyone know what is needed to be able to use iMessage on a WIFI ipad 2. Reading the web seems to indicate it will be linked to your Apple ID. I share my apple ID with my wife so we can share apps etc... we purchase. Can we set up a new appleID for iMessage to keep them separate?
3. How will other iOS5 users contact me by iMessage? By phone number for iPhone4 and appleID for ipad? How will they sync accross?
4.Will I be able to SMS non iOS5 users from my iPad? As I understand it iMessage is iOS5 to iOS5 (Like BBM) so I guess the answer will be no but not sure. I don't think non iMessage message will sync from my iphone$ to my iPad2
|
1: You can setup iCloud with any Apple ID, only @me will have email though. You can enable the other iCloud features on any ID though. (photo etc)
2: iMessage will be linked to your number/email. Like FaceTime, you can add extra addresses that iMessage can use.
3) If you use ios5 anyone that also uses iOS 5 will automatically iMessage you instead of SMS if they have your phone #. This can be enabled/disabled. They can also iMessage your email.
4) No. Cant SMS from your iPad. Can only message iMessagers. Only iMessage will sync, not SMS.

Ok, I'm trying to install iOS 5. I have downloaded two different .ipsw files from two different places and I am having trouble accessing them. I opened them with the Archive Utility and it won't let me open the .dmg file without a password. How did you guys get through this? Am I downloading it from the wrong place, or is there a password hidden in a file that I am just missing?

So if you haven't preordered one yet, you're probably not getting one for a few months?

You'll still have luck getting one.
Anyone's best bet if they haven't preordered by next Friday is to head to an Apple store around 10 pm that day. No one realizes they stay open later than usual for launch days.
During the iPad 2 launch the store was basically empty at 10 pm.

Roger's has a number of units dedicated to the reservation system, and a dedicated number of units for regular sales. Even if you don't reserve a unit you still have a chance if you go to a rogers store. Not sure if this is the case with the other carriers providing a reservation system.

Just curious if anyone else has seen a video on YouTube of a guy browsing the German Apple site with pages for the iPhone 5 that were supposedly up for a day, showing images of the phone, specs etc. This was shown to me by a guy I know here in Shanghai and looked potentially legitimate, but I don't have a vpn right now to get on YouTube and I would have expected to read more about it already.
Edit: Nevermind....

Alright, if I wanted to wait a month before getting one do you think it would be easy to find them?

I didn't reserve 'till mid-day on the seventh and I'm 1809 in line with Rogers. I'd really like to find out what that means in terms of when the damn thing'll be in my paws!

Any recommendations on times or tips for lining up at the Apple store the day of launch? Thinking Market Mall. Where do people line up for that anyway?
Rogers upgrade will cost me $774, so it looks like unlocked is the way to go.

Apple Announces Over One Million iPhone 4S Pre-Orders in First 24 Hours
Quote:
That number tops the previous record for Apple held by the iPhone 4 which sold 600,000 units in pre-order on the first day. AT&T previously announced that they alone were responsible for 200,000 iPhone 4S pre-orders.

Interesting Siri tidbit... can you activate it by holding it to your ear?
Seems like a lot of people weren't terribly pleased with it being activated on a button press. This would hopefully alleviate that.

Not a bad number considering people won't care about an upgraded iPhone 4. Apple clearly has no idea what they're doing.

Should really neat to see how many sell over the holiday season.
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...s_quarter.html
Beyond the launch window, analyst Gene Munster with Piper Jaffray believes that the early sales figures suggest Apple can potentially surpass his previously made prediction of 25 million units sold during the holiday quarter that ends with December. If Apple does sell 25 million iPhones, it would be up 77 percent from the 14.1 million handsets Apple sold in the September quarter of 2010, when the iPhone 4 debuted.
