Philips is 7th in league scoring and has scored 9 points in last 5 games
Gawdin is 19th in league scoring
Philp had zero goals in first 10 pro games, then 9 goals in next 10 games
The rookie line of Philp, Ruzicka, and Tuulola have combined for 17 goals after 22 games

Luke Philp scores again. Make that 10 goals and 13 points in his last 11 games. Suddenly, he's in the top-20 in the AHL in goal-scoring. He's shooting 30%, but it's still impressive.
Currently 2-1 STK over ONT.

And now Austin Czarnik scores the OT winner for Stockton.
Man, who are the Flames going to scratch and demote when everyone is healthy?

Philp is tied for 2nd in goals by rookies in the AHL with Jack Studnicka, Josh Norris, Owen Tippett and Jason Robertson, they are1 behind Alex Formenton. Philps' 21 games is the lowest of all those players, Tippett at 27 has played the most.
Of those players, Formenton, Studnicka & Robertson were all 2nd round picks in 2017, Tippett & Norris were first rounders that year. They all have some kind of pedigree and are adjusting to the AHL while coming from a higher level of play in the CHL than Philp saw. That said, Philp is 4 years older than those kids, so maturity will also be a factor.

It would be nice to see some of these right hand shot forwards (Phillips, Gawdin, Philp) work their way legitimately onto the Flame roster over the next year or two.

^ Then there is also the right shooting Tuulola, and Zavgorodny hopefully makes his Heat debut at seasons end. Further down the line we have Nodler, a right shot centre.

Philp opens the scoring against San Jose. Took a while to get adjusted to the pro game, but he's been really tearing it up. 11 goals in his last 12.

I didn't notice this until tonight, but Stockton only has 1 regulation loss to teams not named the Roadrunners.
Record vs Roadrunners: 0-4-0
Record vs Everyone else: 16-1-3
On the bright(?) side, 3 of the 4 loses to the Roadrunners were by a single goal, so it's not like we aren't in the games.

All I can get
|
5-2 Stockton over San Jose
Goals: Phillips (2), Robinson, Gallant, Kirkland.
Gillies stops 47 out of 49 shots.
The Heat comfortably sit in second place in the Pacific Division.

Man Phillips is going to be a player I think, so excited about the step he’s taken this year!
9 goals 11 assists 20 points in his last 14 games including a 7 game point streak where he has 3 multi point nights to help put up 7 goals 5 assists and 12 points during the current streak. Incredibly exciting for a sophomore his size to be dominating the rough and tumble AHL like he is.

I'd like to see the Flames add a veteran defenseman for Stockton at some point before the deadline. Team defense is still pretty clearly their weak point and a long playoff run could be very good for the development of our prospects.

To note as well, this is the second strong game in a row for Gillies after having a rough game in which he gave up 3 goals on 5 shots before being pulled. He's back over .900 for the year again.

Yeah, with split duties and a 68 game season, a couple bad games can seriously skew their numbers

I think at the beginning of the year projections were possibly back in January
