Well, that isn't entirely accurate. All ebay.ca does for you is only shows auctions where the seller says they will ship to Canada; unless you refine the search.

You will get more results in your ebay shopping search results using Ebay.com as well. Just have to email the seller and ask if they will ship to Canada, if they dont list that as an option.

Thanks to all who answered. I actually looked at my electronic receipt and the seller chose to send it through U.S. Postal Service, so thats a relief. Im new to the whole Ebay thing, that was my first purchase. I just noticed when I won that I had to put in the "I'm Canadian" thing, and UPS Express popped up, so I just assumed thats how he sent it. So HOPEFULLY I'm good to go. I dont care if it takes a couple extra weeks, as long as Im not payin $100 to some bogus "brokerage fee". If UPS came to my door with a bill like that, I'd kick him right in his brown shorts.

Also thanks for the warning on UPS, I will remember that for future purchases. I appreciate it guys!

I guess I should have made it more clear. It's easier to refine the search so that only Canadian hits pop up.

The only thing bout that is you may miss out on more listings, hence better deals. I never refine my search to include only Canadian matches. Alot of sellers on ebay may not list Canada as a potential shipping destination, but if you email the seller more often than not they will send to Canada still.

In a mean sort of way, I was hoping it did come UPS just so I could see how much they charged you.

But for your sake, I'm glad it is coming USPS.

I've been hit before. I think it was a 60 dollar item, that had 50 dollars in brokerage fees added on top of that. Needless to say I was pissed off, especially since there is nothing I could do at that point. Lesson learned I suppose.

I had a time sensitive shipment coming to me from Texas. I needed it in 10 days. Normal service should have sufficed, but I sent it Air Express or whatever they call it, just to be safe. This is supposed to take 4-5 days at most.
It got to Calgary in a little over 24 hours, and then was just sitting there for days. No one would tell me why or offer me an explaination.
Seven days later I got a letter saying that I need to pay the duty before they will ship it because they use a third party delivery service in Lethbridge and they do not allow them to collect COD. I got this letter the day before I needed the shipment (9 days into the total delivery time).
I called and paid the second the letter came. They assured me that it would be cleared ASAP and delivered the next day. Someone would call to confirm this all happening.
Call never came.
I called back and it still hadn't cleared customs. No big deal yet, it would still clear in time, someone would call and confirm. No call.
The day I need the item arrives and it still hasn't cleared customs and no one as called to explain this to me.
By this point I am getting pissed. Its too late now though, so whatever, nothing that anyone can do is going to get this here in time, so no point in blowing a gasket.
Four days later, or two weeks after shipping my package comes.
It was delivered by a FedEx driver who says he does all the residental and commercial deliveries for Lethbridge.
I called back and all they had for me was a "sorry". Supervisor would call me. That was three days ago... still no call.
That same day I wrote a letter to PR department, an auto-response indicated that I would receive and email or phone call within 48 hours to address my concerns. Yesterday I got a nice care package with some chocolates in it.. still no call or email.
This is why I will aviod FedEx to Lethbridge in the future.

I've never heard of Hong Kong Post, but I've bought stuff from Asia before, and for some reason, it was really cheap and really fast.

I ordered a T shirt a few years ago,DSL were the shippers. Got my goods, received a letter a week or so later asking me for $20 in brokerage fees. I threw it in the garbage. So don't use DSL, either (though I never did hear from them again).

I've currently got Fed Ex bugging me about unpaid brokerage fees on an item I took possession of a couple of weeks ago.

I don't understand how they get away with charging the consignee the brokerage fee - I had no contract with Fed Ex when the item was shipped - that transaction was between the seller and Fed Ex. Which makes me wonder, are consignee's really on the hook for brokerage at all?

You should be good. I've ordered items from Asia a few times and it usually arrived quickly with no brokerage fees. I believe it's transferred to Canada Post when it arrives to Canada.
