McGowan looking great tonight, too bad the game is basically meaningless. 9K's, complete game 5 hitter.

On the highlights I saw they were mentioning how similar his pitching style is to Halliday's. It would be awesome if we ended up with 2 or 3 more young Halliday clones. I wonder if that is a result of just working under the same pitching coach, or if Doc is giving pointers.

he looked really good. the slider was nasty, they said he was still hitting 99mph in the 9th inning as well.

I've said it before, McGowan is the Jays pitcher who has the best stuff. He's taken some huge strides this year towards figuring out how to use it and how to pitch. IMO thats always the issue with young guys who have great stuff is that they still need to learn how to "pitch" in order for them to be effective. Ever since that game where he one hit the Rockies McGowans been pretty good and consistant for the Jays. Realistically he should probalby slot #3 in the Jays rotation next year should they keep it as is...but he'll likley end up in the 4 spot as you probably want to get a finesse guy like Markum sandwiched between a couple of fire ballers like Burnett and McGowan.

Yeah, Adams is almost making a case for himself to take over third base from Roid Glaus next year. That sweep is a real kick in the junk for the Red Sox though, now only a game and a half up on the Yankees and you know the Yanks will slap the Jays around for 3 of 4 this weekend.

Well he's been absolutely terrible in September so they might as well shut him down now before he does any further damage. He owes his agent big time for getting him that contract extension last year because I doubt he'd be getting offered much more than 12 on a short term deal if he hit the market this offseason as a free agent with the year he's had and now the injury.

So Doc goes 8 2/3, but collapse and let the Yankees tie it in the 9th. The Jays win on a Zaun HR, but Doc just can't get a win lately.

Downs was the culprit there. I thought for sure they were done. Nice job to hang in there for the victory in 14 innings. I'm amazed Zaun had anything left after catching for that long.

I officially hate John Gibbons. Halladay had enough juice left in the tank to get them through the last out. And it wasn't his fault Hill was too damn slow to grab a ground ball...or smart enough to plant before he lobbed that crappy throw to Stairs. If anything, he shoulda pulled Hill not Doc...freakin' idiot. He damn well better get fired at the end of the year

He brought in a lefty to face a lefty.

I hate Gibbons, but thats what he's supposed to do at that point in the game. No complaints here.

Hill made a few awesome plays early, but he was the goat in the 9th. Bad throw then a weak effort on another grounder. He just looked tired.

Hill had a really bad 9th.

Instead of going for the double play when the runner had to avoid the ball, he goes to first base. Then, a lazy throw causing a bobble by Overbay (and could have made an easy play to second if he would have gone to second earlier). Next, letting the ground ball go under his glove.

Just a bad inning for him all the way around.

I don't think so. I'd never take one of the best pitchers out of a game because of an error when he didn't look all that tired. Even for a guy whose been pretty good lately and has the lefty-lefty thing going for him.

Little known Scott Downs fact: He threw a no hitter for the Edmonton Trppers during the second game of a double header. (It was like 4 degrees outside with 40 people watching.)

So whats the latest on the Jays injury list? Marcum, Thomas and Downs all left the game on Saturday. Take out Overbay, Wells, Thomas, Glaus and the Jays look like a typical MLB doormat team with a bunch of September callups playing. Surprisingly they've fared pretty well. Even with a bunch of light hitters seems like by having some righty/lefty balance in the linup out of neccessity that the team has been getting a few more runs.

Latest is AJ Burnett has left the team for personal reasons.

Anyone having HD problems with todays game? Shaw had it on channel 220, and everything was fine until I switched the channel and now the channel has disappeared.

Marcum is done for the year. He's going for surgery for a torn meniscus in his knee.

Fasano is done too, going for knee surgery as well.

They will be the 10th and 11th players to be operated on this season.

Nice game by Litsch pitching on short notice. 7 and 2/3rds inning holding the Yankees to a single run. Somehow that lineup for Toronto manages to gain a split with the Yankees in a 4 game series.
