Loonie cracks 98 cents US
Quote:
The Canadian loonie's strong flight continued Tuesday as it briefly cracked 98 cents US for the first time since Feb. 3, 1977.
After going through the 98-cent plateau, the loonie later retreated. In morning trading on global foreign exchange markets, the Canadian dollar was up 0.62 of a cent at 97.90 cents US.

Loving this. Being less then 45 minutes from the border keeps getting better and better.
When I go over tomorrow, the shoes I pick up will cost half of what they would cost in Canada.

With my Phoenix vacation being canceled due to an imminent death in the family, (Uncle has lung cancer) Vegas might be my next option in the new year. Never been there and had it in my plans for the future

I think I have to go to the U.S. and buy up all the liquor and cigarettes I can get my hands on. For this rate and their prices....how can I not!!! Too bad Alberta borders such a boring state like Montana.

Fed cuts rates by a half point
The Federal Reserve lowers the target on a key short-term interest rate for the first time in four years from 5.25% to 4.75%
The Federal Reserve cut the target on a key short-term interest rate by a half of a percentage point Tuesday to 4.75%, further acknowledgment from the central bank that the mortgage meltdown plaguing Wall Street and Main Street could have a negative impact on the economy.
The cut to the federal funds rate, the first since June 2003, was widely anticipated by investors and followed a surprise cut to the Fed's discount rate on August 17. The only question was whether the Fed would lower the federal funds rate by 25 basis points or 50 basis points. (There are 100 basis points in a full percentage point.)
The federal funds rate, an overnight lending rate that banks charge each other, is important since it influences the amount of interest consumers must pay for various types of debt, such as credit cards, home equity lines of credit and auto loans. The rate cut should help some beleaguered home borrowers who are set to see monthly payments on adjustable rate mortgages rise later this year.

They were talking parity by the end of the year. I think you'll see parity now by the end of the week!

I like how they have to qualify that there are 100 basis points in a percentage point. If Americans can't figure that out then I believe I can see another reason for the mortgage crisis down there.

Good eye...that is hilarious!
The issue though is that people will lend the money to someone who can't figure that out in the first place!
