Things that are so absurd they actually stop you in your tracks (LOST! Octopus)
So I am out for a walk today, discovering the pathways of Cranston/Fish Creek Park, and on the way back, I see a lost pet sign taped to a bus stop:
LOST! Octopus
Complete with a picture of a giant octopus, so this thing didn't go down a drain. It even included the warning "If found, approach from behind. If startled, it will shoot ink from its abdomen that will paralyze you."
I was completely dumbfounded by this.
Who actually keeps a giant octopus with the ability to paralyze you as a pet? How on earth does one lose a giant octopus? And how can someone actually think that this octopus is wandering the streets of south Calgary like a lost puppy, just waiting for a good samaritan to find it?
But, if you do find it, there is a $200 reward in it for you...

...and he answers to "Squirty"
Honestly, if it was a joke I'd go and get a flyer from a seafood store and tape it right underneath with the caption: "$250 Reward for that guy's octopus"

sounds like the kind of thing I would do as a joke...this time it wasn't though.
I did a similar one with a mountain cat once.

I have seen those around my neck of the woods. I knew instantly it was a joke. The first time I read it I laughed for a while. I am sure that was the intent.

What's the point of that joke if you don't see the result?

Just because you don't see that you made someone smile, does that mean you shouldn't try?
I guess to answer your question it falls to the question:
- Do you make people laugh to make you feel good; or
- Do you make people laugh to make them feel good
If you answered the former there is no point, if you answered the latter then you know why it was done.
If you've ever did something to make someone laugh and then heard about it afterwards it is an awesome feeling. Then again I guess that falls to the first reason, it's not as common to happen but when it does it's awesome.
