Default China web-user dies after three-day online binge

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1

Quote:
A man in southern China collapsed and died after a three-day marathon online session at a cybercafe, state media reported on Monday.

The web-user, estimated to be 30 years old, suddenly collapsed in front of his computer terminal in Guangdong province, and emergency personnel were unable to revive him, the Beijing News reported.

"According to preliminary findings, the length of time this man spent online might have triggered heart problems," the paper quoted a local hospital emergency medic in the city of Zhongshan as saying.

The paper did not provide the man's name or the online activities he was engaged in.

Worried about growing Internet addiction, China's government has taken steps to combat the problem, including forcing online gaming sites to dock the points of gamers who stay online too long.

I though I recalled hearing about something like this months ago?

The article is dated today, so I wonder if this is becoming more common?

It's a wildly popular online game with over 50 million users. You would probably only know about it if you lived in one of those asian countries. But it is getting increasingly popular here.

I do not play that stupid game. I know people who play it though. There's even an anime coming soon. Oh the horror of it all.

It was probably from the coffee and red bull he drank while at the cafe.

Not to mention that he was probably spending a lot of time online before the final 30-hour binge. I bet if you looked at this guy's last week or month there would be a lot of online time.

Every time we went into an cyber-cafe in China they were packed with gamers usually into MMORPG's (didn't see WOW once), pirated movies or porn (have you no shame? Save it for the library! )

I have to say that the approach of docking gamers points if they stay online too much is interesting, albeit a father-knows best approach...but sometimes those approaches are needed for peoples own good.

WoW is huge in China. They are the "farmers". Hundres of kids playing WoW, for hours on end, getting the best loot. I think they get paid for it too..
