That probably just got him re-elected. Not sure how I feel about it though.

Guess that means the west leg project of the LRT will be on again.
I also suspect this will get Bronco re elected again.
Also heard on the news that Edmonton's mayor wasn't happy with the dollars they got.

"LRT expansion — particularly a west leg — would be priorities for the money, followed by recreational and cultural facilities."
I wonder if a new arena for the Flames would be recreational and/or cultural?

I hate Bronconnier. The money is nice, but I'd rather have someone else at the helm instead.

my god, you'd rather have the city suffer into deeper infrastructure resession just to get someone else ... who may not be much better ... in office.
take the money and be happy. most people's view of bronco won't change because of the money anyway.

Pretty much for the same reason he was pissed last time - The 1 million people in the City of Calgary are getting roughly the same amount of money as the 1 million people in the Edmonton MSA. Apparently a citizen of Strathcona County is worth more than an Edmontonian, according to Mandel.

I actually think he's one of the worst mayors in Calgary's history. That of course is my own opinion, and I'll be voting for Alnoor in October.
Anyway, I hope this money goes to good use.

Wow, what a timing for this announcement, eh? Election must be coming in again that's why Bronco is trying to be a good guy again. I cannot stand this guy and too bad we never have any other candidate that is a huge threat for him. Last election, i was looking for someone to vote other than him and couldn't find one. I never heard of any of the candidates so I voted some guy by the name Oscar. He came in second. This year I am not sure if there's anyone being huge threat again. It sucks but that's life I guess.
Bronco please try to finish one or two constructions first before your guys start a new one. Everywhere we go there is a freaking construction. Enough is enough!!

Worst mayor?
How about Al Duerr? The one who let our roads and infrastructure fall apart. All because he wanted to be a good guy and keep taxes down. Since then we being playing a never ending game of catch up.

How else do you expect the city to catch up on infrastructure projects?

West LRT? I wonder where would that go and what it would look like. It seems there is very little, if any room, to put LRT tracks and stations accross Bow trail or 17th...

This is good news. I am curious what the cultural funding means. Perhaps we'll finally get a proper public art gallery? I'm hoping the city will try to leverage this money and get the federal government to match funds on some major projects like WLRT and SELRT. Some money toward centre city revitalization, streetscape improvements would also be nice.
With regard to taxes, Calgary has some of the lowest property taxes of any major city in North America. Consequently, we get some of the skimpiest services. People want services, but seeminly not willing to pay for them.

If that's true there's no doubt housing prices will continue to go way up.

You do remember we were in the economic doldrums then don't you? You can only spend what you've got money to do.

Except you can build twice as much for half the money back then compared to now! You are supposed to build during the slow times so that you are ready for the busy times...
We waste a dollar (or 2 or 3) of spending now in sheer inflation for every dollar we actually are able to spend on infrastructure.
Al Duerr was a HORRIBLE (low energy) mayor IMO. No one is perfect but Bronconnier at least gets things done (high energy). Not sure what the big complaints are??
Claeren.
