That's awesome!
Given what we are seeing that might be a reality in all places very soon.

The Montana's airport is giving only $0.95 Cdn for every US dollar. So that is below par

Was there ever a time when the CND was worth more than the USD?

Yes.

Unlike other currencies in the Bretton Woods system whose values were fixed, the Canadian dollar was allowed to float from 1950 to 1962. From 1952 to 1960, the Canadian dollar traded at a slight premium over the U.S. dollar, reaching a high of US$1.0614 on August 20, 1957 (the all-time high of US$2.78 was reached on 11 July 1864 after the United States had temporarily abandoned the gold standard).

As an inflation-fighting measure, the Canadian dollar was allowed to float in 1970. Its value appreciated and it was worth more than the U.S. dollar for part of the 1970s. The high point was on April 25, 1974 when it reached US$1.0443. The Canadian dollar has continued to float since then, but it has not been above the U.S. dollar since 1976.

If it happens this year it will be the first time in 31 years.

So the Cdn $ was worth almost three times the US $ when Canada didn't even exist yet? I'm confused

Nope, Canadian dollar started in 1854, while Canada was still a colony. See here: http://www.bankofcanada.ca/en/dollar_book/index.html.

Oh, I do. I know people use that jokingly for everything, and I used it in that way somewhat, but really, I do blame Bush big time on this. I also blame the fed reserve for not having the forsight to see this sub prime disaster. The whole scenario wreaks of stupidity. But how fiscal conservatives can still be on Bush's side, I have no idea.

At Calforex just now, I got .94777 US$ per each CDN..obviously a transaction of a few hundred $, going to get the retail rate.
Not so long ago (5 years?), remembering getting .77 per CDN dollar for cash for US trips.

I just set up a US dollar account with my bank today. Bought three thousand dollars worth of American money. I'm renting a place in Phoenix for the month of December. That and I thought it would be a good idea to stock pile some American dollars for future trips while our buck is so high.

Wow, when I first moved to the USA in 2000, it was at 60 cents. It was so expensive to afford the tuition and already inflated housing. Now it sucks coming back to Canada because things aren't cheap anymore! I used to look forward to visiting my parents and OILFAN aka my brother and buying cheap stuff from the Roots store or anything hockey related. Good for Canada though! I'm glad they're almost equivalent to the US dollar so that when you shop online at stores you dont have, its not too painful (ie hollister or victoria's or bath and body works or wherever else canadians might shop in terms of American stores)
