This is barely hammered. They should have a worse punishment, I mean they realistically dont even need a 1st round pick next year. They should do something like 2 to 3 1st round picks, I bet teams would think twice about cheating then. I understand that bad teams will worry but what is to stop the Colts from doing it, I mean they dont need a pick anyway.

This is hammered, this was more than the thought the high case would be. Congrats to the league.

And btw, regardless of who you are, you need 1st round picks, they are the lifeblood of a NFL team. They have a stacked roster now, but taking away a 08 pick will hurt them from 08 on.

And this is confirmed, I saw it on si.com

I see your point, and I agree that it should've been worse, but I think you underestimate the value of a first round pick in the NFL. Most 1st rounders are starters in their rookie seasons. Getting those young players in and contributing are the lifeblood of NFL success. It lessens the effect of the salary cap.
 It will hurt them.

a first round pick in football in huge, I don't think there is a sport that relies more on the draft then Football because the rosters are so large. you can be the best player at your position in all you draft class and get picked in the second round this is massive.
 the money means nothing.

I don't follow NFL football, so why were they punished?

A first round pick is important no doubt. But if you are the Colts, would you not take this risk in the playoffs by getting the huge advantage of reading the other teams calls. Basically, you get a much better chance to win and you lose 1 1st round pick. The Colts wouldnt even miss it, especially if they win again this year.

Yeah I understand what some people are saying.
By the way Flames in 07, I just got my Reggie Bush jersey in today and I am stoked to be wearing it either tomorrow or to the Stamps game (is it bad to do this?)

Well, I would imagine future offenders may find the punishment getting stiffer.

I always found this tacky, but I see a lot of people doing it. Would you wear an RSL jersey to a Flames game?

Now for sure they will win the Superbowl again, just to spite all you haters.
Don't worry Pat fans - they will appeal the decision to an independent arbitrator (who happens to be a Pats season ticket holder).

I still think that they should've forfeited the game. People can say that they would've won without cheating, and that is maybe true. But realistically the cheating gave them a win and it should be taken away.
