Default Frankfurt Auto Show!

For all of you who love cars (just about everyone here), the Frankfurt Auto Show is going on right now.

It looks like there are some interesting new vehicles coming out, but all the image links are broken for me (probably because of my works network).

But here is the link:

Lots of cool stuff in Frankfurt this year.. I actually just got done watching the MB press Conference. Benz introduced 19 new models..

Everything from Diesel Hybrid SUV's coming out next yearn to a fuel cell B-Class coming out in 2010.. to 470hp C-Class Wagon..

Lamborghini Reventon looks like they took most of their styling cues from stealth fighters. Still only 20 to made?

BMW x6 looks like a curvy AMC Eagle.

Most of the small cars seem to grab their basic shape from the scion xb/honda element, which isn't too good in my opinion.

Mercedes f700 concept looks interesting just for the swoopy grille.

Yet again Ford of America is screwing NA with older generation cars.

Is Jaguar a sedan company that's going for the poshness of Bentley or do they offer more sports? Which is it?

Interesting GT-R article that's on the second? page. Where they indicate that the engine for the GT-R will have a combined turbine exhaust manifold.

MINI officially launched its Clubman. Essentially a MINI with an extra 2 feet of rear seats / cargo area, complete with unique barnstyle rear doors. Very different.

Not really related to the autoshow but when I went to Monaco earlier this summer I was able to see a real life Ferrari Enzo, Bugatti Veyron, and a McLaren Mercedes SLR. I took a ton of pictures of the Enzo and few of the Veyron and SLR (and the sticker tag for it) if you guys are interested in seeing them.

What's the point of the X6? It's cargo hauling looks like it's been pared back to minimal amounts leaving it what to still be called an SUV?

Should it be reclassed as an "overweight all wheel drive hatchback"?

Don't get me wrong, it looks good, just not sure why it still gets SUV nomenclature.

If you're paying $80 000plus for a vehicle, you have enough money for another one. Point is...There's a market for people that want to feel like they're driving an SUV but don't need it to put sporting equipment in.

Plus they look cool.

I'm far from a Greenie by any means, but this just strikes me as gross excess. Why build an "SUV" that's the same interior size as a sedan, but 20-30% heavier? Fuel consumption aside, why not just reduce weight and get better performance. I'm willing to bet more than a few car mags point this illogical reasoning out.

Why not just get an M3 or a 6 Series if you want to look good - I believe they're roughly the same price.
