NHL 2K8 -- Ships today -- Post what store you find it at!
I'm copying Jayems but for the better of the two games.
If anyone finds 2K8 today, please post it in here!
Thanks!

I'm going to call Blockbuster, Rogers Video, Walmart, EB Games, Futureshop, and Bestbuy later today to find out if they have it.

I've heard the 2K8 franchise mode is incredibly deep. I'd probably play it if the game play didn't suck to me. Always boxy players... but the franchise mode would entice me to play it just for the managing mode, instead of actual game play.

I actually much, much perfer the gameplay of the 2K series to the EA series. Strangely enough, my favourite NHL game ever was/is 2K7. I played through probably a dozen or more seasons.
The 2K series has never let me down, so I stay loyal.

NHL 2K8 is at EB Games in Edmonton. I will eventually buy both, but i want to find a review of 2K8 before i buy it. Anyone know where i might be able to find one?
I heard that 2k8 has the skill stick now too but the franchise mode is WAY deeper. I loved 08 last year but it sucks that you can't get any studs in the draft, and basically the first round is the only round where you can get useable players, who only ever become just good enough by the time they are 26 to play on your second line.

Look for the review of NHL 2K8 at IGN later today (xbox360.ign.com or ps3.ign.com).
According to the developers the demo of the game has been done for a week now but there's a long line-up at Microsoft to get certifcation for game demos. I would imagine the demo will be coming in the near future.
The EB Games in Burnaby (Greater Vancouver Area) has it in stock as of 10:00am this morning.

Do you think it will be up later today? I want to pick it up today so i can play it tonight, but i want to make sure the review is good first.
I'm more a franchise guy. I usually get 08 for the gameplay with friends and k8 for for building up my own franchise (ie. drafting, trading, etc)

2K8 games have done enough to earn my loyalty. I have no reason to suspect it won't be fantastic.

Man, I really need a better franchise mode, 2k7 was pretty horrible imo. I don't know why the thing is so brutal... I put it on hardest franchise difficulty and I can still sign 23 year old Gretzky-types for like 600k/6 year deals. It'd be nice to have a salary cap this time too that's the same for each team.

2K8 seems to be easy to find. I found it at both EB and FS here in Van. I think it was $50 at FS

4.0 well deserved in my opinion 2k hockey games have been the exact same for a few years now. Every year the graphics get a little better and there is a new use for the right stick, but you never use it because even on all star difficulty the game is way to easy.

Apparently 1up is not a viable source for reviews, has a very bad reputation. Wait for Gamespot (especially) and IGN.

So, 2K8 has new a whole new graphics engine, goalie system, offensive AI, defensive AI, control scheme, puckhandling, and speed and it is the same game as all the 2K games that came before it?

The problem is they have been saying that every year for that last 3-4 years and yet the game plays exactly the same way. This year it does seem as though changes were made but all for the worst.
4/10 was probably harsh and the reviewer pretty much admitted that. I think it was written as a wakesup call type of review. Time for 2k to get serious again because EA has taken the crown back full stop.
I basically have no loyalty to brand when it comes to sports games. I wait for the reviews to come in, read the reviews for what I want to see in a game and make my decision. This year with the way the demo plays and the inclusion of AHL teams basically had me sold on NHL 08 before the reviews (first time in a long long time) and the reviews sure aren't changing my mind any. Back from business trip on Friday aft and on the way back home I'll be picking it up.

Actually, I think there is a bit of bad blood between 2K Sports and 1Up and that review was something they did to get back at the publisher for comments they made.
Read here if you are interested in learning more about the drama:

Could definitely be the case but on the various boards in cyberspace there are many 2k fans that are extremely disappointed with the game. I'd be shocked if the scores were close this year. Last year it was a dead heat (8.0/10 critic score for NHL 07 and 7.9/10 for 2k7), I doubt it's the case this year.
