Default September 11th...Six Years Later

Hard to believe it's been six years already...with over 3,000 dead it may seem like a small drip in the bucket in light of other worldly problems but lest we forget all those who died that day. I'll never forget where I was that day and how much it has affected me personally in my relationships with my family and friends to my job.

RIP to all 9/11 victims.

I'll never forget the day. Not ever. It has changed our world in many ways.

RIP to the victims.

RIP to all 9/11 victims.

Some people say that there are even thousands of more people that may die from health problems related to the attacks. The total death count will likely never be known.

That story makes me cry every time. God, to have to make such a decision... I can't even imagine.

I know I sound like a cheap salseman but watch the documentary in the link I provided about the falling man. It's a tough watch but they try to identify the falling man and I know it sounds so elementary, but it really taught me that for every person who died, that person had a family, colleagues, friends, and a life more than just a name in an obituary.

There aren't too many days in 6 years that have gone by that I haven't thought about 9/11. I've watched hundreds of documentaries on it and it still gets to me today. So many innocent lives were lost. I always have the images in my head of the firefighters going in and then the building collapsing mere minutes later. God bless those who lost their lives and to the families and god bless America. Those firefighters, policemen and women, and all those that helped in NYC, as well as people like Todd Beamer are true heroes. RIP.

Edit: I will always have "let's roll" in my head from that day. You are a true hero Todd.

I remember watching the CBC when they did that documentry. Makes it even sadder when one could put a name to that person.

9/11 was amazing, especially watching the horror of the event in real time. How people can be so fanatic to destroy that many innocent peoples lives and think they are doing good also amazes me.

The other side of the coin is how Bush and his cohorts could take advantage of these peoples deaths to set in motion his own agenda of invading Iraq in a never ending gorilla conflict and putting the US on a phony war alert to limit peoples rights.

For me its a point of sadness in remembrence of that horrible day, that I know for most people it shook us to our core.

The images still carry a lot of weight, not as much as a few years ago but I do find myself feeling some anger now, even more so than sadness.

I'm sad to see what unified a nation and the west has turned into something sad. I'm angry to see people with an agenda using the names of those people who died to evoke support to their agenda's.

I am most of all as an athiest very disturbed at the increase in religious zealotry in the big montheistic religions after 9/11.

The compassion, the togetherness we all felt after that day was something quite amazing. Feeling solidarity, I will miss that deeply.

Now those feelings have been destroyed with political agenda's, religious agendas.. The world seems more fractured than its ever been, all the while fanatacism is sharply on the incline in muslim and western nations.

I'm sad for what we did after 9/11, and if I hear another polititian use 9/11 further their own less than honourable agenda's I will scream.

9/11 changed the world, I still remember getting a call from my mom waking me up to tell me to turn the TV before I went to University so I would be "in the loop", it was so bizarre.

What's amazing is that original predictions were in the 20-30 thousand range....the true heroes of 9/11 were able to save 25 thousand lives.

Also, I can't believe the towers withstood the blow of the plains but rather it was the jet fuel that melted the beams causing it to collapse, unreal....talk about a magnificant structure.

Here is what happened on September 11, 2001:

16,000 children starved to death.

12,000 people died from AIDS.

5,500 people died from diarrhea.

3,200 people died from malaria.

3,000 people died from measles.

2,819 people died in the attacks on the WTC.

Perspective is everything.
To shed tears just because it happened a little closer to home would be hypocritical. It didn't happen to me or anybody around me. It hasn't affected my life much (oh no I had to get a passport and wait 30 minutes longer at the airport). I just don't give a **** about 2819 people when worse things happen to more innocent people every single day. Where is the outrage? Where are the memorials? Where are the CNN specials?

With that said, 2,819 people still died. I do feel bad for the familes and friends of those who lost their lives. I'm not a totally cold person.

Interesting trivia: This is the first Sept 11 since 2001 that falls on a Tuesday.

You are a sad man.

Without getting involved in the nonsense of above in a thread that is specific in it's title and content, I too shall never forget the day that was 9/11/01.

As a relative newcomer to the US and watching/listening to the events of that day unfold in real time, I can honestly say I dont think I have ever been as frightened in my life. I cant imagine how much worse it was for those on the planes, in the buildings, and on the ground who witnessed this unprovoked attack with their own eyes.

Here is to hoping that such an event never ever happens again, but with the lunatics running around and murdering people in the name of fanaticism, i dont like those chances much.

I second what Transplant said..you truly are a sad man because those people are our brothers and sisters and to have a cold callous attitude towards such mass death is truly pathetic.

I'll never forget it because I was on a plane. Flying from Detroit to Las Vegas for my honeymoon. My wife and I ended up in Albequerque, New Mexico. We had no idea where we were or how we were going to get anywhere or even back home. When I finally got in touch with my parents, my mother was bawling. She said "rent a car and drive straight North and we'll come and get you. I don't care if you end up in Saskatchewan, just get back here." The panick in her voice was really overwhelming as my mom is very calm in horrible situations due to her nursing background.

I can't believe 6 years has past already. I remember waking up that morning and turning on the news like I do every morning and watching this. At first like everyone else I thought it was a plane that just flew too low and hit the World Trade Centre. When the second one hit I thought to myself that can't be right. That day has certainly changed our world. My heart goes out to all those that lost their lives that day. I can't imagine what their families have gone through.
