Second, what exactly is urban about Deerfoot? Other that it happens to run through the city, it is highway speed limit, highway interchanges, it actually is a highway, and there are no traffic lights. What makes it urban in your mind?

I drive the entire length of deerfoot daily(beddington to seton), sometimes more then once, both ways. I am pretty sure inside the city limits along that path there is not a single sign that says slower traffic keep right, but since its been brought up i'll have to pay special attention to it next trip.
As for speeding, go for it, and as much right as you have to proceed at the speed you want so do I. Why should someone going 110 in the left lane have to move over to the right lane and slow down to 100 there just so you don't have to slow down behind them???
I usually drive around 110-115 on deerfoot. I don't have a problem moving over for people but if it looks like i'd have to click off the cruise control to let you pass me and you've decided to ride my ass til i move over, then you'll just have to wait til there is a larger gap in the middle lane for me to move over too. Courtesy works both ways, you'd like me to move over, i'd like you to stop riding my ass. Give and you shall recieve.

Personally I was taught to drive in the right-most lane possible.
My beef are the people that drive the limit but get freaked out when they have to pass someone and slow down 10kph then speed up again once they've passed the person.

To clarify my psot re: uncarved...
Damn straight I go all the way to the end, or at least most of the way and merge in. WTF is the pavement there for? We pay to have it paved, why shouldn't we use it? Because some stupid granny decided to start flailing her arms and switching lanes 700 meters before the lane ran out. CAUSING TRAFFIC TO BACK UP?
You think I'm backing up traffic? Are you one of those ######s that starts merging immediately after 14th becomes level and 500 meters before teh lane runs out? Yeah. I'M backing up traffic. Fu**ing LOL.

This thread is like one big A-hole coming out party.
The left lane does not exist solely for your purpose, and you've got issues for faulting someone who is abiding the law by doing the limit. Especially if you feel justified in physically endangering them and everyone else on the road by tailgating.
If only you speeding/tailgating idiots could witness a night at the foothills trauma bay. Or even better, a day at the morgue. And if ironically you're not man enough to stomach the gore, a visit to the neuro-rehab ward, as there's lots of quadrapelegics/brain damaged young adults that you could converse the merits of speeding with.
The number one cause of of death and disability in under 40 year olds?
Trauma. The number one cause of Trauma? Motor vehicle collisions.

Don't give a fiddlerwhatever? Seriously, man. You are one of those people that arbitrarily get into the left lane because you've got 27 miles before your exit, right? Too effin lazy to watch your mirror and let the faster people through?
I liken it to this:
My awakening came when I went to Rome. Over there, people drive exactly the same way people walk in crowds. Faster people weave through, slower people take NO OFFENCE.
And why would they? What business it is of their's how fast others go? I mean, unless they're running through a walking crowd (see: excessive speeding), WTF is their problem?
As for your photo radar point.... Bring it on. I know how fast I go. It's not excessive. I'm not endangering anyone except for peter12's neck because he threatens to slam on the brakes when I'm behind him.
|
Except were not talking about someone bumping into each other and spilling their coffee. We're talking about accidents that become dangerously compounded as the speed of travel increases. I really hope you don't learn the hardway by getting into an accident...I'd never wish that upon anyone, but when you start tailgating someone who's doing the speed limit I hope your injuries are minor when that person drives defensively and you ram into the back of them.
Also, for about the QE2 being inside city limits, you must also consider that 16 av turns back into HWY 1 and we sure don't follow highway rules inside the city. 17 av turns into the 1A on the east side, Country Hills BV to Hwy 564, etc. Just cause the highway may run through doesn't mean highway rules apply within the limits.

Now here's a truth teller. And a courteous individual. Thanks Dan. (wow, he admits to speeding. You're going to H-E-double hockey sticks with me and redvan)

That's not what I meant at all. My point was... you could hurt someone. It's bound to happen.

That picture could have been taken from anywhere... not necessarily from the Deerfoot.
Second, the Deerfoot is within the Calgary city limits as the signs on both the south and north sides of the Deerfoot state - therefore, "urban". I would download picture of a sign, but I dont think that's necessary.

I'm so riled up I didn't even see whatever you posted in this thread. That hack at you was a sore spot from our last encounter in the other driving thread. Sorry to bring it up. I simply want everyone who keeps pace in the left lane to die. Or else suffer broken necks. Or in your case, to have a very happy and long life.

I'm with you 4X4
i wasn't going to weigh in on this thread but you are getting pounded.
I totally and completely agree with you, if you aren't going 100+ get the F___ out of the left lane and move over. Obviously if it's rush hour and gridlock then there isn't much to do there but so many times i'm driving on deerfoot and slowly mcslow face is putting along at 100, does he not realize he is slowing down traffic?
UGH reading this thread gave me mild road rage you guys are a bunch of grandmas.

Thanks CJ. I thought I was back in the quilting forum again.
And peter, sorry for my last post. I've got a very sick sense of humour. I could edit, but should probably apologize instead.

For the record, I 'speed' as well, but never more than 10 over when I'm in the city limits. I think 4x4 is assuming that everyone disagreeing with him is claiming to never speed, but I haven't really seen that, in this thread at least.

I know (hope??) this is sarcastic, but you probably could have made your point without it - riled up or not.

Deoxyribonucleic Acid, for example... sounds impressive, right? But have you ever seen what happens if you put something in acid? It dissolves! If we had all this acid in our cells, we'd all dissolve! So much for the Theory of Evolution, Check MATE!

I don't know, it's never that simple. If you're saying that dudes in the right and middle are doing 90, and some guy wants to pass them he must speed to do so? I can't agree with that. It would probably be a good idea for the guy to wait until there's no one barrelling down on him from behind, but he shouldn't have to speed.

Well, V, he should stay off Deerfoot if he doesn't know where his gas pedal is.

No I'm not naiive. You don't have the slighest idea on how much speeding affects my job and my life personally. I've seen the damage, and i've seen bodies being pulled out of vehicles because some one who can't drive (and i'm not grouping all speeders here) speeds and causes an accident which effects some innocent driver.
If you speed and you drive well, than good on ya. I respect people who can do both in a respectable and controlled manner. But don't ever give an excuse that a guy was driving the speed limit in the left lane and you ram into him because you couldn't wait the 30 seconds it took for the guy to pass the guy in the middle lane. Is your life's appointments and plans SO DAMN IMPORTANT that you can't wait 30 seconds or drive the speed limit for once? C'mon. If you speed for the rush, hit up a track. If you speed to cut down on time, you probably need to manage time better.
