The two firms are steeped in brewing history, with Molson, founded in 1786, being Canada's oldest brewer, while Coors dates back to 1873, when Adolph Coors created the firm in Golden, Colorado.
Combined sales of the two firms were estimated at some six billion US dollars. The merger is expected to generate annual savings of some 175 million US dollars by 2007.
The firm, with more than 40 brands, would have a 43 percent market share in Canada, a 21 percent share of the British market and an 11 percent share of the US and Brazilian markets.

after sam adams, coors has to be the worst mass-market beer in the US. I seriously don't understand how people can drink this stuff.

Glad someone else thinks Sam Adams is horrible. I can't say that I've ever had a regular Coors. Have had plenty of Coors light though, typical of all major label American beers. Tastes a lot like water.

Oh well, can't beat a cold Kokanee or Stella Artois.
....Of course, being underaged, I've never tasted them, I'm just going by the pretty labels...

One beer that I vow to never drink while on Canadian soil is a Corona. A guy who drinks coolers is a step above a Corona sipper in my books.

End of a tradition?
Bologna. More like the consolidation of two crappy beer companies.
Real men drink real beer. Stella, Amstel, Urquell, Asahi, Hoegaarden, Guinness, etc (as far as names that most people are familiar with). As far as good Canadian Beer goes, there aren't many, but some Big Rock beers are good (Trad, Warthog, and Black Amber), and a few even smaller breweries make a good beer (Alley Kat, Granville Island Brewing Co., and a few others). Sleeman's, Keiths, Kokanee, and Rickards are OK, but don't compare on a world scale. Those Big Rock Beers and the beers of smaller brewing companies around the country would be good alternatives to some of my favourite imported beers, but almost no mainstream Canadian beer can even compare to a good German beer (Licher, Franziskaner, Erbacher, Binding, Sion, some would argue Becks...I wouldn't, it's just average IMO, etc.
I'm all about the Dutch and Belgian beer as well overall....
But I don't understand why Canadians as a whole are so proud of our beer. For the most part it's very average and crappy.
