Wow, of course the Employer is responsible for the health and safety of their employees.

IMO there is a reason why the WWE are suspending so many folks in the company. One would have to think the Government will place a summons on the WWE and TNA to inquire into the recent activity.

I don't think there would even be a wrestling industry if it were completely safe, unless it's a bunch of naked women wrestling. If people want to live wrecklessly, then let them do it.
Would you want them to shut down hockey if Eric Lindros killed his family?

My first thought is that your trying to be funny. But the spelling and wording of your post makes me think that you could be serious. Or 12 years old.

No, but if professional hockey players were making a habit of dying young, and there were very strong indications that their working conditions contributed to their death I would expect a SERIOUS effort to clean up the sport.

Actually, both are correct.

I thought I had read somewhere that his brain was essentially equal to that of an 85-year-old male with Alzheimers
"At the crime scene, police found anabolic steroids prompting many to suspect that "roid rage" had accounted for Benoit's behavior, which his family found out of character for the 40-year-old.

[snip]

The tests, conducted by Julian Bailes of the Sports Legacy Institute, show that Benoit's brain was so severely damaged it resembled the brain of an 85-year-old Alzheimer's patient.

[snip]

They found that Benoit's brain showed an advanced form of dementia that appears on the brain scan as brown clumps or tangles. These brown spots are actually dead brain cells, killed off as a result of head trauma, said Bailes."

As far as the Signature Pharmacy incident is concerned, WWE suspended 10 wrestlers who were identified by the Albany, NY District Attorney's Office during an investigation into the online pharmacy. Randy Orton is not among the ten superstars suspended because he confessed to WWE to his ordering of the drugs online and, as per the WWE Wellness Policy, was suspended in April.

Personally, this is a very crappy time to be a fan of wrestling. Several of the 10 superstars that were suspended were big-name draws. The suspensions have, however, led to some changes regarding the Wellness Policy. Wrestlers will be publicly identified for violations of the Wellness Policy starting November 1st, and WWE has supposedly taken steps to improve drug testing.

It's a damn shame that it took two deaths (Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit), a couple of close calls (Kurt Angle), the threat of Congessional hearings, and a DA's investigation to finally force WWE into gear.

EDIT: as far as a wrestlers union goes, it has been attempted many, many times before, but with WWE being the only show in town, it never gets far. I have some literature and quotes concerning this, which i'll try and find and post later.

What is the argument?

Is the WWE responsible? Partly responsible?

Does mental illness (and varying degrees) prove irresposiblity?

Are people from Edmonton psychopathic?

Seriously, what are we asking? I believe there are many contributing factors both within and without hos body, some he went along with and some he was born with or pushed with.

BUT, to act with the capability he had in life, he certainly had capability to know what he was doing. If things were so bad and he wanted to go, then fine. But why take others with him? Vice versa, if he did them first (99% of the time the likely scenario) then he killed himself cause he was guilty and remorseful.

Both scenarios show a working mind.

I personally wasn't really making any particular argument; I was just trying to provide a little more information regarding the research that the Institute did on Benoit's brain, and the shape that it was in.

What Chris Benoit did was utterly reprehensible, and I don't think you will find anyone that will dispute that fact. However, knowing the condition that his brain was in, as well as knowing what drugs he was taking at the time all help to paint a picture of what his mindset might have been.
