Oh definately, I'd not buy an iPhone for personal use because of the features it leaves out let alone for business use.

Doesn't mean it's bad, it's just not meant for everyone.

With the iPhone touch, I already have a good phone and would only want the music ability, so the touch is a good product. I have a 4GB player right now and rarely run into space issues (don't feel the need to have my whole collection in one device), and the screen is amazing, so I'd be tempted to buy one.

A bit big for my use though, so I probably won't get one.

Who needs 160 GB on an iPod when there is no content? Ripping DVDs is a pain, there are no TV shows or movies available on iTunes in Canada...and I'm not keen on navigating the shadier parts of the net for content.

My 5G 80 GB model has 5038 songs, 26 videos (ripped Season 2 of The Simpsons after considerable effort, plus misc odds and sods) and I have 52.5 GB of free space.

So we need 160 GB why?

I would never consider getting a touch iPod until I hear how scratch resistant the screen is, given how hyper sensitive past iPods have been.

I think i talked myself outta the ipod touch. For $100 more you can get the iphone which has a phone, camera, and all that other stuff. O well, it ships sept 28th, so have some time to think about it, it's gonna either be an impulse buy or wait for a soft-mod unlocked iphone. Also, not playing divx/xvid sucks and converting is a pain.

Yeah for videos I'd much rather go with the new Creative Zen (which even has an SD card slot!) or the iRiver clix 2.

Just for those who were wondering the iphone has been unlocked for use on the Rogers wireless network there are a couple of issues though:

-It costs about $150 through Bongowireless.com in Toronto, and takes a day, they guarantee their work. It sounds like a tricky and difficult hack, but it works.
-If you upadate your iphone by plugging it into itunes it apparently locks the phone up again. What this means you will have to use the one set of tunes on it, (that you origanally installed) and the one version of firmware.
-Visual voice mail does not work here, not yet set up with Rogers.
-Data rates. We all know are high in Canada and the iphone periodically access the network (through Edge) to update its Widgets, this can push up your data usage.....and your bill.

Hardly seems worth it to me. Wait a year see what Rogers and Apple do, and hopefully our data costs in Canada go down and Apple and Rogers come out with somthing worth while.

Does any one know if the connectors are all the same size as the old iPods? I'm thinking of getting a Bose sound dock that lets you attach an iPod directly through the bottom of the iPod and play the music through the Bose speaker system. But this sound dock was released before the new iPods were.

And Apple already may face a lawsuit over the iTouch.

That didn't take long...

LOL.. That's a stretch of a lawsuit, just because it uses the word Touch. HTC Touch vs iPod Touch.. come on.

Functionality isn't even the same! Smart phone vs media player. They have more challenge with the iPhone, and they are independant developments.

As much as I hate Apple, this doesn't seem to be a big deal.

Bit the bullet and bought a touch last night, hope it's worth it and doesn't blow up on me.

I have heard the iphone has some sort of scratch resistant coating that makes it almost impossible to scratch. I would assume the ipod touch would also use this.

It will work just fine. Steve Jobs said that the connector is the same as the 5G ipods, so it is compatible with the "ipod ecosystem. But buying bose speakers is not that great an option, Overpriced and low quuality.

The ipod touch has the same "optical quality glass" as the iphone. It should stand up to scratches well on the the front.

As for the back, I think it's the same type of metal as current ipods. That can get scratched up.

I tend to agree Photon, I bought the 8gb Ipod and have yet to have more than 350 songs on it... which is like 40% of its capacity. I always remove as many songs as I add when updating... I just get sick of certain tunes and don't want them any more... I could have bought the 4 and been happy, of course then it would not be black but still...

Oh yeah totally. Just sounds like another company trying to leech off the success of the iPod.

Looks like all the bitching paid off.

http://www.apple.com/hotnews/openiphoneletter/

$100 for all iPhone customers who don't qualify for the price match.
