So does anyone know if this spendo-rama is on this year or not? I understand it was torpedoed last year for a variety of reasons, but most competitors still had sales.

Not that I need to splurge on anything big right now.... Could use some good bluetooth headphones though.

I'm shopping for a plasma... so I'd love to see the sale back on. It will be hard for any local retailer to match online retailers though, especially the US ones.

I don't think they are doing it this year...same problem as last year...don't have the tons of extra staff they need to put it on...If you are looking at the comp side of things Laptop Depot picked up the date and did a small sale least year and I hear they are lookign at doing the same thing this year.

They are still doing the in store specials.. they are just not having it at the big 4, which is just like last year.

Meh, the in store specials weren't all that special. That and it was a royal PITA to run around and try and find places with stock. We'll see, Future Shop usually puts on a decent sale to counter.

Increasingly though, I'm buying from Costco for the great warranty.

I'm like a crack whore in a lab when it comes to electronics, so in some ways I'll be glad if there isn't a major deal at the Big 4. At least I won't be sleeping on the couch for a week.

I've been able to confirm that the soundsaround sales start on Sept 15 as per soundsaround salesman.

I think that's a little vague. Do you mean he told you there will be an event at the Big 4? Or that he told you there would be a sale this weekend?

I have to agree- last year's sale really wasn't anything special.

No offense - but I put soundsaround salesmen in the same category as Nigerian scammers and dogfighters. They'd tell me "I love you" just to make a sale.

Best Buy and Future Shop have a 3 days Calgary only sale on this weekend. Good prices on HDTV's. XBox 360 Pro+Forza at BB for $350, Toshiba HD-DVD Player at FS for $199 and some other stuff.

I went to FS and BB and got the flyers. Don't have anyway to scan though. The sale is today, Saturday and Sunday. Here's is a couple of RFD links with some scans. A lot of the TV's are limited quantities.

Futureshop also has a LG 42 inch Plasma HDTV for $999 and the Canon S1000 for $229. Pretty good prices.

I asked the dude specifically when the Big 4 sale was and he told me that it was in stores starting Sept 15.

Re: the comment about the salesman's integrity. Yes, I agree completely; however this guy was less shady and greasy than some of the other typical ones.
