The 160 GB classic on the other hand is fantastic. But the iTouch seems like a big disappointment.

The iPod Touch is flash based, so 8 and 16GB is about as much as you can expect without the price becoming insane.
The iPhone case isn't really big (thick) enough to house everything and a 1.8 inch HDD, so either they go to a smaller HDD (expensive) or go with flash based.. they're going flash because pretty soon HDD based players will go away as the flash capacities go up.

There are unlocks for the iPhone now, I believe some people have it up and running on Rogers.. not sure what's required though.

Guys here were talking about 160 GB a little while ago. Looks like somebody got the numbers wrong at first.
To me, this is worse than when Gates got the BSOD when showcasing Win98.

to unlock, u need to open it up and do some soldering and stuff, so not an easy unlock. Lost of talk about a software unlock, but just talk right now.
I'm gonna get the touch for now and sell it off when i get an iphone. Then i can start running around sing "I've got the touch......I've got the power!!"

Arrgh! Just bought a 80gb Ipod. Good thing I haven't opened it yet.
I should have known something was up when everyone started running out of inventory.

Grr! I bought mine a month ago.
I'm seeing if I can possibly sell it, so I've made a thread about it here:

I would love to get the iTouch but 16BG just ain't enough storage if they could boost it up to atleast 30gb I would be interested. The new classics look sharp though, 160GB is alot I' thinking I might go get the 80GB one.

I have $255 in a giftcard that was part of last year's Christmas bonus at work. I saved it specifically for the 6G Ipod.
Considering that that reduces the price a fair bit, I will likely go for the Ipod Touch.
16GB is more storage than I have ever had on an mp3 player. With that in mind, I'm alriight.
I just won't be putting many movies on it, and I won't be ripping loseless audio files.
One question: How many songs (average) can fit in 16GB at 256kbps?
Also, I'm stoked about the wifi .
Ipod Touch here I come!

OK, I thought I had heard that the new iTouch was 160GB, then they made a mistake and changed it to 16GB. Obviously I got some facts wrong somewhere.
Carry on without me.

What's the big deal behind the iPod Touch?
- with 16gb it's really only a music player, not a lot of video capacity for it.
- with only wifi connectivity you better have a hot spot around you if you want to browse the net.
- no phone. So much for integration.
As far as I can tell, my Blackberry 8830
- has more limited MP3 options, but has at least can get to 2GB.
- a phone
- anywhere you want internet via EDGE/EVDO.
Ahh but it does lack the gee-whiz interface. And no schill to tell me it's cool.

Well it's not intended to be a be-all device, that's why they have the iPhone. If I was in the US and had to choose between an iPhone or the iPod Touch, the phone would obviously be the better choice.
16GB is tons for video at that resolution as well, enough for a trip or general use.
Heck my m600i can do push email from BB, has a better screen than the BB, more MP3 options, expandable memory, and no BB schill to tell me its cool
As an iPod it's a decent option compared to the other mp3 players out there, it's not meant to compete with phones.
EDIT: And don't underestimate the gee-whiz interface, interface is the real reason the iPod is so popular, and the iPhone interface is light years beyond anything else on any phone.

And about 1,423 users Just kidding, never heard of the m600i but after looking at the specs it does look rather well equipped and nifty.
The BB does have one sledgehammer to wield against the iPhone and all other mobile mail competitors. Blackberry Enterprise Server and it's acceptance by the corporate community for its security and ability to integrate into Exchange. WinCE might give things a good fight, but I can't ever see corporate IT ever seriously taking an iPhone seriously. Since work provides and pays for my BB, I'll use whatever's provided. Our shop has played around with some WinCE phone devices for field sales guys and the ability to do custom stylus based apps, but aren't finding great hardware.
(but they'll sell a ton of these things to consumers)
