Default Fighter Jets above Calgary?

Anyone else notice a couple CF-18's above downtown the last few days? Today was the second time I've seen them above the stampede grounds.

Two CF-18s made a pass over McMahon Stadium as part of the Labour Day Classic celebrations just before the game yesterday and the pilots were at the game later on.

Yep, article in the sun a week or two again saying that the RAF would be training here prior to deployment in Afghanistan.

I work at the airport and get to see these badboys up close and personal.
Apparently one of the pilots was telling my boss that they are the most agile, low altitude fighter jets in the world. Flying at 150ft-200ft is nothing for them and they can do it at speeds of 600 knots.

If you want to hear their real power, when they doing a tandem take-off, the whole terminal shakes and you can feel the ground beneath you.
Really an amazing sight. I have been seeing them for a couple weeks almost everyday and I still think to myself my ultimate dream job would still be a figther pilot.

What, if any that you know of, kind of schedule are they on? I've only seen them once and that was at 8 o'clock in the morning and they were returning to the airport.

Oh man. At least once an hour we see them land and take off, as I believe they are practicing a variety of scenarios.

I know for a fact that they have attempted numerous different types of take-offs, as fighter jets in general have the ability to use a short piece of runaway to achieve maximum speed and then take off (i.e. aircraft carriers). However, on Monday, the tandem takeoff used the whole length of the runaway.

As for the schedule no idea. We know they are coming because we can hear them....and then we all run to the windows and doors!

I was flying out of Calgary yesterday and I saw 2 RAF Tornadoes take off on Runway 16... I got some pics...

As for the C/F 18s, I saw them land in Calgary on Monday as well.

Fighter planes are so cool! One of my favourite reasons to go to Odessa Texas was for the FBO I was working out of. Tonnes of military coming and going out of there. Marine Harrier's and MH-53's, F-18's, trainer jets and a bunch of other helicopters.

When the F-18's come in to land it was so sweet, they buzzed the tower and screamed in on the run-way, but when the pilots were leaving they sat on the ramp for about 45 minutes with engines on. I had to wait inside because the noise was too great.

Yup, I live out by Priddis, SW of Calgary, and yesterday, 2 of them zipped over my house, someeeeeeeeeeeeee loud I tell you!!!

I can not imagine how horrific it would be to live in Bagdad, any such city, with all the noise from repeated fly overs and bombings.

Was at the International air show in Toronto this past weekend. Was really neat to see a F-22, F-18F, F-16, and a Canadian Cf-18 perform. Hard to take good pictures though since they were flying really fast, but I got a few for my collection.

It was a joke. I did not truly believe that the planes were flying themselves.
