I question rules, but as long as they are still in place I will follow them.

If people speed, yes I hope the law catches them.

Sorry, don't drive in the left lane.

Why would I want to handle your redneck cowboy speed? The police do a good job of dealing with speeders. Complain to them if you get a ticket.

I express a concern for the excessive speed on the Deerfoot and i'm whining?

You were mean? Could have fooled me.

Yes, rates are high because of inexperience but also due to drivers having a blatant disregard for the law. The rice rockets I see zipping in and out of traffic obviously could care less what the posted speed limits are. Or the fact their driving habits put others in danger.

And no, i'm not arguing that a few kims over the speed limit is a danger.

I suppose they just don't want to go above the speed limit, as that's what would happen if they release their brake.

About time someone else says what needs to be said. Sometimes you go fast, sometimes you don't. Them's the breaks. P.S. Part of the reason I like to go fast is to pass all the drivers who may feel their skills aren't good enough to go fast, etc. I need to get away from bad drivers because they are the ones who cause accidents.

there is no reason to "ride" your break when their is no traffic in front of you. gear down to maintain a safe speed. (you dont need a manual transmission to gear down).

anyhow, i guess you had to be there to know the frustration of having a dude ride his breaks at 30km an hour in front of you.

Well, then I don't understand the issue. If they rode the brakes or geared down, they would have maintained the same speed regardless of the method, so it wouldn't have affected your speed either.

What really irks me are the people that pulse their brakes doing down a hill. Let's say the limit is 50 km/h. When they hit 60, they will hit the brakes and slow to 30, then coast to 60 and hit the brakes again. Impossible to keep a steady speed when following them.

Or because we might feel like going the limit. I'm a young driver, I have a new car, therefore I tend to speed. If traffic permits, I have no problem going 15-20 over the limit.

But dang it, I can't stand impatient drivers. Take last night, I'm on my way down to Deerfoot after driving a friend to the airport. I'm really tired and not feeling alert at all. So I am going 60 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. Some old joker in a Pontiac Sunfire feels that's not enough and tailgates me, literally 5 or 5 feet from my bumper all the way down Airport Trail.

I hate tail-gaters, I hate ######s who feel they must go just a bit faster all of the time. So I smack my brakes before going onto Deerfoot, the guy swerves around me, gives me a long middle finger and then proceed to fall back and tailgate until I exit at Glenmore.

Seriously, I can't believe I couldn't get his plates.

I don't know... I'll tell you that I've been driving for quite awhile now and the ones that are truly putting others in danger are the strugglers that drive on big roads and are too stupid or scared to keep pace with traffic. Without fail, there's always some yahoo that figures he is the police and decides to do 100 in the fast lane. Those buttheads are what causes my temper to flare and that causes me to swerve around them in the middle lane. Thus creating danger which could have been avoided if dum dum would stick to his lane (the slow one).

If you're not capable of driving with the big boys, stay the hell off the big roads. Use Elbow Drive. Take the bus. Just stop driving slow in the fast lane. (that comment was aimed at the entire world)

Last week I was doing the Deerfoot and there's this young guy in a Civic speeding along in the left lane. He decides at the last minute he wants off at 32nd so he cranks his wheel and nearly takes off the front end of my vehicle and the others beside me. Couldn't get his plate number either.

He could have merged in gradualy to make his turn but I guess the rest of us were going to slow for him.

I agree that slow drivers create a hazard for others on the road. And yes i've seen the yahoo's you've pointed out also. Still it doesn't give you the right to make those lane changes and put other drivers in danger.

I'm in my mid 40's and I found over the years that speeders were more of a hazard to drivers. For example, last week i was attempting to pass a driver using the left lane. As i'm about to enter a car comes racing up out of nowhere. I suspect he/she was doing around 160ks. I aborted my lane change to avoid being hit. The driver that wasn't there a few seconds ago is suddenly in my sights. I've seen far too many of these type drivers on the road. Frankly they should slow down or get a race track to drive on.

i hate tenative drivers as well .. however the left lane is not the "fast lane", the right lane is actually the "slow lane".

the maximum speed is no different in the left lane, its just that for those cars that might need to go below the speed limit, they should stay in the right lane.

Oh yes it is. The left lane is my own personal lane (and my fellow fast drivers'). The annoying SOBs that figure that since they're going the limit, they can hinder my speed, get a rearview full of highbeams. Eventually they move over.

i guess i'm an idiot driver now as well...got my first ever ticket last night...crappy deal. however, the rc that got me was pretty good about it. i was doing a buck thirty when he lit me up, which is a 177 dollar fine and 3 demerits. one more kph and i'm up to 4 demerits and a way bigger fine. however, he gave me a little mercy...he gave me 115 (2 demerits and 89 dollar fine) and sent me on my way.

i have a question though...does one ticket affect your insurance at all? or do you get one freebie?

i know what you are saying, but no the left lane is for passing those cars that are not going the speed limit in the right hand lane. it is not actually designated as the lane to speed in.

although if you want to speed, i say get as far ahead of me as you can.

So I am going up McCleod August Long weekend... traffic is moderate and doing in and around the speed limit.

A white sports car all of a sudden blows by me doing about 150-160ish around Shawnessy. I was lucky... was just about to pass a car in front of me, signalled left into the "fast" lane... shoulder checked and just before I went.. BOOM, here is this asshat coming out of the blue. In an 80 kph zone... nice. If I misjudged THAT driver... I am likely to be in a serious wreck.

5, 10 kph, I can deal with... 40 (as 4x4 alluded to) is ridiculous... 70-80ish like I just experienced is jail worthy IMO.

I have no problem going the speed limit personally. I enjoy my time in the car. Why the rush from point A to point B? What do those few insignificant minutes add to your life? I can only fathom that it is adrenaline highs. As with similar pursuits, "it's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase" attitude.

And to 4x4, there is NOTHING that pisses me off more than someone tailgaiting me in a truck where the headlights are hammering me from my three mirrors. Do you really think it will speed people up by doing that? Do you think that they will feel safe to make a lane change if they can't see what is beside them as your lights are messing with their perspectives?

And for the record REDVAN, I was like you when I was young. Bulletproof, and no accident/ticket history. Doesn't mean that in hindsight I believe I was a good driver. I was just lucky... as you are... so far.
