What was that one on those guys playing in one of the crappy quebec leagues? The name escapes me now, but it was one of the best docs i've ever seen...it's a league where basically all they do is fight. some of the guys are actually living in the rink in dilapidated rooms....for some reason i think it might have been called for the love of the game, but i doubt it

I believe the one you are thinking of is called "Les Chiefs" or something about the guys playing in that Quebec league.

When We Were Kings was a great look at an elite athlete in his prime.
I caught a doc on Benny Hinn - Do You Believe in Miracles? on CBC's Fifth Estate - that made my stomach churn.

"The Human Behaviour Experiments" was a creepy doc that followed several cases, the most notable being the prisoner experiment at stanford university. One of the most unethical experiments in recent psychology history, it actually sheds some light on the Abu Ghraib torture.
This experiment is widely talked about in many psychology classes, but this doc had a bunch of footage that I'd never seen before. Very interesting.

I read an article on them a while back. I'll try to find it and post the link here.
Ok...it was an Sports Illustrated's most recent "Where are they now?" issue. The article is no longer available at SI.com that I can see. It was within the last 6 mos or so...so if you can find one it's well worth the read.

Some sad news in there. Gates' older brother was in the doc, too........especially remember the part when William was late and benched for part of the game and the team lost. Curtis was pretty ticked.
Sad stuff.......glad to hear the two kids are doing well for themselves.

Startup.com.
I watched this in one of my Entrepreneurship classes. All about the dot com boom, how easy it was to raise capital and the downward spiral that followed.

Missed it earlier, but nice thread. I went through and made note of a few to pick up soon.
As for King of Kong, I'm not even a huge video gamer but I loved it. Some of those guys are hilarious, but the whole culture and the interaction between the world record holders and the challengers is great. And some of the commentary is downright hilarious.
Anyone who has ever played video games needs to check it out.

The Bridge.
Director Eric Steel has succeeded in making one of the most morbid documentaries ever, The Bridge. Starring several deceased Golden Gate Bridge jumpers, The Bridge is a eulogy comprised of interviews with their loved ones and friends who reminisce about those who succeeded in committing suicide in the San Francisco Bay. Spliced between interview footage are shots of the bridge in all its majesty, surrounded by fog, and being enjoyed by tourists. Meant to represent The Bridge as a rounded character, one of beauty punctuated by tragedy, this film is assuredly touching for the affected families. It's an important step in the grieving process, but feels random viewed by one who didn't know these mentally disturbed citizens. As a conceptual investigation into suicidal motivations, the documentary succeeds, though midway through viewing one begins to feel like an interloper at various funerals. We hear of one woman's battle with schizophrenia, another man's death obsession, and several retellings of those who witnessed the horrendous events. Like Grey Gardens, The Bridge captivates by triggering one's love of sensationalism, but fortunately the film's sincerity undercuts any inkling of gossip column crime reporting. This tribute to suicide victims serves as an oblique tribute to The Bridge, as an honest portrayal of its history, gritty though important to remember.

Cocaine Cowboys- it's about Miami in the 70's and 80's and it's quite interesting. Some of the facts that they throw around are amazing, highly recommended.

I ordered The Selfish Gene a few days ago!
Yeah I've watched all his Christmas Lectures series, man I wish kids could be brought up here watching that kind of programming isntead of being programmed to believe in diety worship.
I'll look for The Blind Watchmaker asap.

BUMP!
Hey everyone! Just saw King of Kong, it is on DVD now in case anyone wants to rent it, and I have to say it was awesome! It starts out a bit slow but really picks up and there are some great/unbelievable personalities in it. I would suggest to anyone, even if you're like me and not really into videogames, it is funny and you really start rooting for the 'underdog' character.

Metal: A Headbangers Journeywas an interesting watch about all aspects of the metal scene. The bands, influences, history, fans and sub-genres are some of the topics touched on while a fan travels the world to some of heavy metals most prominent scenes trying to find the answer to why metal has never been given its due credit.

I'm in the camp that really enjoys documentaries. Some of my favorites:
9/11
Aftermath of 9/11
Zero Hour: Massacre at Columbine
Conspiracies: Iraq
Virginia Tech: We are all Hokies
Flight of United 93
I must have watched atleast 100 documentaries on 9/11, Columbine, VT, and the War in Iraq. Those are the main documentaries that interest me but I enjoy some others as well.
