Gray area I would think.

They own the phone so I suspect they would argue they are merely watching out for their property....i dont know the legalities of such however.

Two sides on this...

1) if you dont want to have a chip in you...dont apply for the job in question.

2) there is a long history of freedom to come and go as one pleases, and that would be infringed if you HAD to wear one of these deals.

I understand both sides, but would lean to #1 as it is a matter of choice and if you are not doing anything wrong, it should hardly matter at all.

Where I can see this technology being beneficial is in convicted child molesters, rapists and murderers who are given parole. Maybe one of the true deterrents to come along in the last 100 years for these whackos.

That "freedom to come and go as one pleases" would suffer a gradual erosion. They are already in some credit cards, next would be your drivers license, so why not an implant, then we can get rid of all these cards bloating our wallets. It'll be gradual and logical, so your children will never know what they've lost.

You are mistaking "work" with "being in the building until the whistle blows".

I don't know if this guy was a good employee or not, but if they couldn't tell if he was doing his job properly by other means then he must have been doing it right. So who cares if he clears out early? He's been there for 21 years for crying out loud. I'll bet he's a hell of a lot better at it than the guy who replaces him, but I'm sure that guy won't leave early. Probably take a lot longer to actually do the work than the fired guy, and cost more in the end, but at least he was in the building.

As for the implants and identifiers and what not, geez, come on.

Don't apply for the job in the first place? What if there aren't any other jobs? If this becomes accepted or common, soon enough you won't be able to get a job if you aren't willing to be tracked like Arnold in The Running Man.

And the old "if you aren't doing anything wrong, you shouldn't mind bla bla bla...", man that is lame. I'm not doing anything wrong this weekend, but I don't want my employer to be able to track my movements. Why not? I don't know, I just don't. Do you? Would you write them a detailed itinerary if they asked where exactly you were going to be? If not, why not?

And doing something wrong is certainly open to interpretation. "hmm, looks like Bob was at the gay bar again on Saturday night and he didn't get home until Sunday afternoon. Tuesday he was at the Free Clinic on 10th street. Then he went to the liquor store. He's been a hell of an employee for 10 years, but I gotta let him go."

My take on this- they have the right to see what he is up to at any point when he is on the clock. Had they busted him for going to the strip bar on the way home from work and said it didn't meet their code of conduct; then they are intruding on his personal time.

Hmm, in 5 years in my current profession I've never been any good at getting in on time, or leaving at the right time. Thank goodness I've never had a boss that really cares about that stuff.

I find this somewhat ironic. This supervisors' boss obviously wasn't doing his job either as he wasn't sure when his employee was gone or not. Instead of doing his work of supervising him, with using the hands-on method, he relies on a print out of data to fire him. If his boss was doing his job in the first place, they wouldn't have gotten to this point.

Electronic Tracking = lazy mans way of supervising, similar to parents letting the TV raise their kids.

I don't think there's really another way. Basically this guy was an employee of the school board, so he would be working at one or more schools. He was a supervisor himself, so that meant they were paying one extra guy to just be there to make sure the workers were doing their job a;ready. You are suggesting his boss should have hung out at the school too- just to watch the first guy. To what end though? How many levels up have to sit there watching their underlings?
