Default Is CFCN/CTV Campaigning to oust Bronco?

I should say right away that I have no vested interest in this campaign, and other than being a concerned citizen I don't really care!

The reason I bring this up is because I am a news junkie and as one of the four different newscasts I watch each day I noted some peculiar articles:

1. In a piece about the West-leg of the C-train they were interviewing Bronconnier, but focused pretty obviously (to me anyway) on a Go Alnoor poster in the background. I thought that this was odd, but then yesterday;

2. When talking about Crime around the Drop-In Centre they had a criminologist who spoke more about politicians making promises during election time than he did about whether this could be solved with more police officers. This was a pretty blatant attack on Bronconnier and his request for more funding.

Just makes me wonder about their intentions. Two high profile cases in two days, and both appear to try to derail his re-election bid. Am I out to lunch here...anyone else notice this?

I think they were reporting stories. You could look for positive pro-Bronconnier spin and find it if you wanted to see it too. (i.e. Bronco vs. Stelmach)

Civic election - ugh.

It's completely normal for radio/tv stations to throw support behind a particular candidate. It's probably true.

Interesting though...I would think the match up of CTV and Brono would seem to fit...With both CTV and Brono being Liberal minded...At least more-so than Global or CityTV(if they even have news anymore).

Does municipal Government really matter?

Does anyone know how much interest "Brono" retained in any of his development interests during his time in office?

I am sick of the guy and the lack of anything useful that he has done for this city.

Municipal government affects your life more directly than any other branch. Think of property taxes, violent crime and local infrastructure. All initiated in part by your friendly local government.

Yes it does, and a lot. These guys are in control of things that affect you on a daily basis. The Federal and Provincial government may have large profile issues but the Municipal government deals with so many little things that their decisions can shape your lifestyle.

Ditto. There are several who need to go including Druh Farrell who was acclaimed last time! WTF, not one person decided to run against her?

I wish someone in Calgary had the balls to go after Bronco, sadly that wont happen and his rampant mis-prioritizing of available cash will keep going until he upguages to Provincial politics.

I didnt see the LRT bit, but Global this morning had this Indian dude from MRC who was some sort of professor who said this sounded like more of a political move rather than actually crime stopping.

Something about Bronco wants 10 cops for East Villiage but Calgary is already short 300 and saying that CCT cameras arent effective as a crime deterrent as cops walking the beat are (well no duh).

You know what, that is the same piece I was referring to...maybe I've wrongly accused CTV here. I'm sure that the Go Alnoor was on that newscast, but I would doubt that they both interviewed the same criminologist?

Funny, I was just talking about Goal Noor with some friends on a different list this morning. Someone posted this wikipedia link that is attempting to track mayoral and aldermanic candidates. For information purposes only.

It did sound the MRC guy was a smidge motivated. Or he could have just been giving us his viewpoint.

He made a good point, where was this call for stopping crime 2 weeks ago. Has Calgary just fallen over a cliff in the crime department in the last few weeks.

I dont think its anti Bronco from CTV or Global, just someone actually questioning Bronco instead of all bowing before his preceived greatness in this city for once. It was bound to happen once since I lived here (3+ years).

If there was a candidate that could run against Bronco and win you would see the provincial Torries supporting that man/woman big time.

You kidding me? Drew Farrell is probably the most forward-thinking, intelligent person on council.

Plus, shes hot for an old chick.

Never liked Druh when I was in her district. I didn't vote last election once I found out I couldn't vote against her.

Gord Lowe's my guy now. Not sure he's done anything worth re-election. But civic elections seem to be 98% based on name recognition. So I'm sure he'll be back.

Dave have done nothing for this city but 'bitch' to the Province about how they need to do things in our city with half-facts. Dave has done nothing but cause tension with the Province. This city goverment has been lack lots with most aldermen being fools or controlled by city unions. I have contact Dave and my aldermen on three occasions and they don't even bother with responding once. This city goverment needs change.

While that is true, I think polls have shown that many Calgarians are on his side in these matters and feel the same way. The Province really DOES need to put more money into public transit and ifrastructure.

I don't think so. Those guys know what they are doing. Old Bronco may not have known what was behind him but the cameraman definitely got the symbolism.

As for this "Goal Noor" fellow, his name is actually Alnoor Kassam. He seems like a pretty clever (and rich) fellow, but I don't think he's been around very long.

A proud father of three children, ages 20, 18 and 15 years, Alnoor divides his leisure time between spending quality time with his children and his new found Canadian hobbies.

Now I don't think you have to be a blue-blooded Calgarian (father from The House of Scarborough, mom from The Grand Duchy of Crescent Heights) to become Mayor of Calgary, but I don't know that a noob is the best man for the job. If you haven't lived in the city for at least 10 years then how much can you really know about it?
