Make sure you keep your eye out on craigslist and Kijiji. Put up posts on there as well.
You can put up notices on pinkbike and bikeforums(on the western canada forum) as well. Theres a hot bike board as well but I cant remember it offhand.
I dont know that bike offhand but I think its in the $500 range. My guess its a tweaker that ripped it off (rather than someone scoping out highend bikes). Id take a spin thru downtown tonite. Go around the shelters. Go down the path along the Bow from 14th St, go past Eau Clair, and then down past where all the tweakers are towards Inglewood. I wouldnt be surprised if you see someone cruising it.

Thanks for the advice, I will make sure I post at these sites.
We have looked at the drop in center, salvation army and the mustard seed. We went yesterday after it was stolen. I think at night it might be better. I'm almost positive it would have been a tweaker.
It was intestering looking the bikes the homeless / drugie's have. I seen one of them had a nice Gary Fish and Scott mountain bike .

In most cases, insurance for bikes isnt worth it. High deductibles so unless you have a highend bike make it useless. And if you have a highend bike, you wouldnt be looking it up anywhere because its guaranteed to be stonlen or stripped for parts.

it might be part of your homeowners or renters insurance, covered just like your tv, jewelry or whatever

I would check the local pawn shops too. A lot of the time the bikes are stolen by junkies who need the fix NOW. So they pawn them off a the closest shop for a fraction of the actual value.

Out of curiosity and learning - how was your bike locked up? High strength Kryptonite with non barrel (round) keys? To the rack I assume?

also try www.usedcalgary.com when working at Bell we have a lot of people who buy stuff off there and then later find out it is stolen.
Also had a friend whos car stereo was taken, he looked on there and it was for sell. You could imagine the look on the guys face when he pulled out his police badge when talking about it.

The bike is Worth $500 and the deductable is $500. Insurance is not an option.
I've been checking usedcalgary and buysell.com to see if anything turns up.

Yes, but if it is a high end bike, you have to put a rider on your policy specifically to cover it giving them bike registration number etc. We did that for our son when he was still at home, not that expensive thru homeowners, I think around $20 a year for the special rider. They will do that for other items too, like his trumpet, basically, works like say some special jewellery item, fur coat etc.

My wife didn't lock the the bike up that good . It was locked up to the wheel and through the fork. It was a cable lock with flat key, not round.
The wheel was left locked to the bike rack. So the person basically removed the wheel and pushed it away.
