Sure it is...but how often do you or I at age 17 and with a live audience and TV cameras in our face......have to think on our "feet" like she did.

If you know you're going to be grilled on very general questions on society on live TV, you tend to study up on general answers and get someone to coach you on what sort of questions to expect. Its not a difficult concept for anyone with moderate public speaking abilities and a C- average or better. A question like that should not have been a total surprise and should not have generated a rambled and incoherent answer like that.

Poor kid. Odds are this is what she'll be remembered for. Tough to have that kind of infamy when you're 16.

Hey it's her choice to be on TV, so it's up to her to make sure she's prepared.
Smart people prepare, stupid ones don't.
I definitely realize that being nervous makes some people act in less than ideal ways, but I think in this girl's case it just brought out the truth.

I was actually watching this live...
It was pretty hard to listen too. Blonde moments with the um and like.

"Cause Americans are MORONS".
She would have won.

Maybe she heard the question wrong, and thought she was being asked to illustrate why this is.

Or maybe she can't find it on a map either and didn't realize people should be able to?

They should set this question/request (Please point out the USA on this big picture map) up as a mandatory "entrance pop quiz" at all wallmarts, anyone unable to answer within, lets say 5 seconds, is shot on the spot... harsh yes, but quite possibly necessary for the survival of the species...

Not at all! The survival of the species is being handled quite well by the welfare Moms and Walmart shoppers with their 9 child families.
It is the "elites" and professionals with their one or two kids that are putting us at risk! To say nothing of the gays, and sex education advocates.
Hooray for the trailerparks!

I aced Public Speaking in college and never wrote a single speech. Off the cuff everytime. (demostration speech aside).
Some people have a natural abilty to think on their feet, preparation or not. I wouldn't say they are stupid.

Well that was certainly a train wreck of an answer.
It's like someone gave her the topics of AIDS in Africa and the war in Iraq to fall back on in case she didn't have an answer. Of course she stumbled across it like roller skates on marbles.

Man, I feel really bad for her. The poor girl is being ridiculed all over the place for that. It's not like being a little dim is something that makes you a bad person. At that age, I bet she'll be pretty crushed by all the negative attention she's getting.

That was much better than her previous response, a rambling answer that included references to "U.S. Americans" and mentions of South Africa and "the Iraq."
