ATHENS, Greece (CNN) -- Fires in southern Greece that have razed dozens of villages and killed at least 44 people may have been deliberately set ahead of next month's national elections, the prime minister suggested Saturday.

Emergency crews pulled charred bodies from homes and local media reported death tolls of up to 50 people.

I just don't understand this kind of mentality. What is so important that you have to say it while destroying the lives of others? What's the message here that is more important than the lives of the people who've died in these fires?

I honestly haven't a clue what would possess someone to set an entire country on fire... you have nothing to gain by it and it ruins the lives of so many.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest the Turks may be involved, or implicated
The Turks have enough problems of their own to go and mess around in Greece. That said, not out of the question, especially considering what's been happening in Cyprus for the last 30 years.
