I don't think I'll ever buy anything but Toyota from now on. The GM's and Ford's I had over the years turned into crap right before your eye's and are worth nothing in the end.

I had a 91 Explorer that I drove into the ground before I bought the Escape. My view is biased but I think you'll like the handling and ride of the Escape better. Make sure you get the V6.

An '81 Mercury Zephyr, affectionately known as "The Z." It's old, sure, but it's carburated(I don't like FI), only has 81,000 original miles on it, it's paid for, easy to work on, parts are cheap, and it's paid for.

1994 Mazda B4000 "Crew" Cab (its one of those sweet vehicles with the seats that fold outta the walls in the back...pretty stellar...however the seats no longer fold down due to the speakers in the back)
it's an absolute mess right now. mud and crap everywhere in the cab. there is just enough room for me to sit and shift...stupid work...but 17 bucks an hour as a labourer is pretty tough to say no to
its been a decent starter vehicle, but i'm thinking i'd like a full-size pickup with 4wd for the winter...

Ugh.. 2000 VW Passat
New car was in the works, but increase in costs for some renos has probably put it on hold until next year My wife hates to get loans for cars, wants to pay cash for everything. I know she's right, but still...
Anyway was still going back and forth between a G35 Coupe and Sedan.
Waiting may have it's advantages though, I guess in January they're introducing a G35X Sport sedan, and the G37 will be out then too.
