Yeah, I took a girl I was seeing to a Dallas vs LA Raiders game @ the LA Coliseum circa 1992 because she was a Cowboys fan. I didn't wear any NFL stuff and I feared for my life. Totally not worth it too. She was lame.

Yep, I would say the AFC West and NFC East have the fiercest rivalries.

Um there's also the AFC East... Pats vs. Jets vs Dolphins gets pretty scary...

Looks like LJ just signed his extension with the Chiefs.

Eagles release Jeremiah Trotter. I don't quite get this move but Matt McCoy has had an impressive camp and the thinking is he can play weakside and TKO will get moved to the middle.

Also the Vikings signed the Packers garbage in form of WR Robert Ferguson.

I don't get the Eagles move...is it becasue of Trotter's injury situation or he was just ouplayed by this McCoy character?

I think it's a little of both. Trotter's knees are shot and he was really starting to wear down at the end of last year. He came into camp looking a lot better but never really outplayed any of the youngs (i.e. Gaither, Gocong, Bradley, and McCoy). Gaither had a strong rookie campaign, and McCoy and Bradley have both been really strong in camp.

The Eagles are notorious for doing this. They did this when they released Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent, with Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard waiting in the wings. They also released Duce Staley when they thought Westbrook was ready to be the feature back. On both occassions the FO hit a home run.

It was an experience to see the circus that Raider fans create. How one can watch a game with a mask on is beyond me? I woudn't do it again though. Most of those people are pigs. My hatred for the Raiders intensified 10 times after that game.

Right, they have definitely done this in the past. But is it necessary this time around? Their cap situation is healthy, and while Trott's knee's are showing worse for wear, he's still a main cog in that defense. I was quite shocked at the news today.

Except that he's not. His run support has declined and he is a liability in pass coverage. The Eagles are usually around $10 million under the cap every year, so this is not abnormal if you're looking at it from a numbers standpoint. The reason I see them doing this is that Trotter is no longer a significant upgrade over the younger guys and Philly will benefit long term from having those guys play now.

ya, being at alemeda doesn't speak to the intensity of the rivalries with KC and Denver as much as it speaks to the character of Raider fans.

You're right about him being a liability in pass coverage. Especially with the strong TE's and pass catching back's in the NFC east it makes it tough on him. However, while not a significant upgrade over the younger guys, he is an upgrade nonetheless. The Eagles are in win now mode with several of their veterans getting into the twilight of their careers (see Dawkins, several O linemen, McNabb perhaps). With the 'win now' mentality I would have thought that keeping a guy like Trotter around would be a good idea, especially with his leadership and mentoring capabilities.

Really makes me wonder if this is Dawkins' last season.....and that'd be a shame, he's my favorite Eagle probably ever.

So what is what does the depth chart look like in the Eagles LB corps? (says the guy with the 14 team live draft and needs 10 individual D players)

Probably like this:

SAM - Chris Gocong
MIKE - Omar Gaither
WILL - Takeo Spikes

or

SAM - Chris Gocong
MIKE - Takeo Spikes
WILL - Matt McCoy

There is also a rumour going around that the Eagles could be looking to sign Al Wilson if he can pass a physical.

So release one aging linebacker with knee problems for another one with back problems?
Unless DFF can straighten the record about Al Wilson. I think they are both great football players, but that just seems like such a lateral move for the team.
Wonder where Trotter will sign now?

Yeah, that's why I think it is just a rumour. It would be completely uncharacteristic of the Eagles FO to sign him.

I take it you're an Eagles fan. What are your expectations for this year's team in the reg season? 11-5? That's kind of where I'm sitting. With a healthy McNabb they could surpass it, but he hasn't been healthy for so long I forget the feeling.

Agree about Donovan, I'm not sure there is such as thing as a healthy McNabb anymore. Jeff Garcia subbed very well in Philly, without a very good backup they may end up 8-8, I give the division to the Giants this year.

I think 11-5 is realistic. With a healthy McNabb, this team is arguably the best team in the conference. If McNabb goes down again, Feely has shown he is a capable backup and the team might be able to eke out a wildcard spot.

The Giants will battle Washington for third place and will probably lose. They are a bad team.
