Just curious are you going to buy it today and in which format, 360 or PC. Release day is today. Personally I prefer PC.

Downloading demo now off Steam. From what I hear it actually runs pretty well on PC's even a couple years old.

Xbox 360 because my PC can barely run new games.

PC for sure. My new(ish) laptop performs incredibly well with demanding games. TBH I've hardly played my 360 since I've got this machine. Bioshock looks excellent too.

I'm going to pick it up after work today for the Xbox 360. Definitely Game of the Year.

I think I'll be renting a 360 version for one or two weeks. I'm saving for hockey tickets

I have the special edition pre ordered - should be a very good game on the same level as Halo3 and Assasins Creed.

Are the graphics that much better on PC? (Sorry, can't access gaming sites at work to look)

I don't know if the graphics are that much better, however, judging from the reviews I've read the control system is better on the PC. Personally I prefer playing FPS's with the WASD and mouse system.

The graphics look excellent on both formats.

Didn't realize it was out today. I downloaded the demo the other day, and was damn pissed when the demo ended. It looks like it's gonna be a great, deep, interesting game. I'm not big on these type of shooters, but damn was it interesting, and a tad scary too... that's right, I said it.

Textures on the PC are higher resolution and you can run it at a higher resolution than the 360, so it does look somewhat better, but not a huge difference.

I'm not sure if my computer will meet the requirements.

It's a P4 3.2Ghz, 1GB ram, 256MB video card.

I might to have to go with the 360 version.

Yeah, that might be too low...

I was reading and apparently there's an issue where widescreen versions actually see LESS than full screen versions, rather than more as you would expect (and they specifically answered a quesiton in the past where they said a widescreen would see more).

Fixable for the PC version of course, but the 360 version not so much...

Wow that is a gorgeous/macabe looking FPS...the thing about FPS games though is that what is really unique about the gameplay? You run around...shoot monsters...upgrade your skills/weapons...fight a boss at the end of a level...where is the innovation?

Not saying that this game isn't great looking and fun...but the genre is in danger of getting a little stale

I think the game has a large puzzle component as well, which is pretty unique to FPS's.

EDIT: Also the reviews are pretty favourable to say the least.

But to call this game simply a first-person shooter, a game that successfully fuses gameplay and narrative, is really doing it a disservice. This game is a beacon. It's one of those monumental experiences you'll never forget, and the benchmark against which games for years to come will, and indeed must, be measured. This isn't merely an evolution of System Shock 2, but a wake-up call to the industry at large. Play this, and you'll see why you should demand something more from publishers and developers, more than all those derivative sequels forced down our throats year after year with only minor tweaks in their formulas. It's a shining example of how it's possible to bring together all elements of game design and succeed to the wildest degree.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/813/813214p1.html

Needless to say, I am going to pick this up after work.

Arrrgh!!! I would pick this game up today, but my 360 is doing that 3 red lights of death thing. When I talked to xbox support they said I'll have a new xbox within 4-6 weeks (crosses fingers) - I better have it back in time for my pre-order Halo 3....

Haven't you heard that the Genre is dead? Ever since quake/unreal there hasn't been a real innovation to the genre. Vehicles are just another power up. Right now the only separator for most games from being a me-too Counterstrike/BattleField clone is art/storytelling.

Video game genre's are much like music genre's. Has there been an innovation in music in the last decade? Composition is still the same. The only thing that has changed is presentation. Same with movies. Oh noes, the action flick is stale! which is why stuff like shoot'em up was made and released.

Heck all that we're doing right now is waiting for someone to generate an AI that'll become rampant and hoping that it will be benenvolent enough to evolve humanity to the next stage.(Of course, evolving humanity is pretty much genocide so there's other questions about that as well)

The only other question I would have is, what are you going to do about the little sisters? As obviously there's decisions to be made about them...
