I would guess the NFL will now follow suit and formally suspend Vick. Atlanta will now have to decide if they will cut Vick from the team. Should be interesting to follow this saga...

Jim Rome asked this morning if the NFL penalty will run concurrently with the jail time, or be added on later?

So this lets him avoid the federal racketeering charges, but it'll be interesting to see whether the plea-bargain protects Vick from state charges. Hopefully not, as those could end up being a lot more than the federal charges when it's all done.

Hopefully the NFL supsends him for good, he can go serve whatever sentance he has in jail and we never have to hear about him again.

I think the following will happen...
Vick will be suspended indefinitely, the Falcons will then cut him and file a grievance against him to recoup part of if not all of his signing bonus, Vick will go to jail, his suspension of 1 year will kick in if/when a team ever signs him to a contract. But no team will ever sign him and his career in the NFL is effectively toast.

He is done. NFL Network is reporting 10-12 months in jail. CNN is reporting upto 36 months in jail. Plus he still has to deal with the state charges. The NFL will not do anything untill he actually gives his guilty plea next Monday.

I can't see why the commissioner wouldn't ban him for life. Protesters at every game and the lose of sponsers will not be worth the headache of having a subpar QB in the NFL.

if he's suspended by the NFL at that time, he can't be signed by a CFL team

I would think that Canadians would be a lot less forgiving of a dog killer/torturer than a pothead anyway.

I think Vick would be an awesome CFL quarterback though.

This goes to show how strong the evidence was against him, I can also imagine that the federal prosecutors pulled out the big guns as far as further indictments when they met with Vick.

Effectively the dog fighting charges are more of a public relations nightmare for the Falcon's for the NFL and for Vick himself. Its the gambling related allegations that are going to lead to a life time suspension for Vick and the disolution of his contract.

Even in the CFL you have to be able to complete a pass.

Its all good IMO. The guy is and has been a thug for years. if he would admit his involvement and show some sort of remorse for his actions, he may even make it back into football in a couple years. In a couple months we wont even be hearing about him any longer....good.

In the meantime, at least dogs get their payback in a small way.

I don't think showing remorse would work in any way to persuade the public. With his plea deal, he proved that he is a lyer. Nobody will believe him. He will only be showing remorse because he got caught.

good that there are rules in place to prevent some of the stupid decisions CFL managers have been prone to make. Art Schlichter, Dexter Manley, Todd Marinovich, Lawrence Phillips are few names that come to mind

I have a question for the people that have posted in this thread. I'd like to say, firstoff, that I think what Vick did is deplorable, and in no way do I think he should recieve any special treatment. Okay, now that I have it out of the way, does anyone think that Vick should get a second chance?
