Hot Rod
Anybody see this yet? I doubt many have considering I just saw it on the weekend, which I believe is only its second weekend showing and it was practically empty in there, but oh man is it a beaut! I went in thinking it'd be along the lines of 40 Year Old Virgin or Knocked Up, that type of comedy. But I'd say it's closer to Napolean Dynamite, it definitely had that type of feel to it.
I felt dumber after seeing it, but it's got some hilarious lines in there. The best parts were all the random crap they just threw in there for no reason whatsoever, plus you can't go wrong with havin Will Arnett from Arrested Development in there, although it's a pretty small role. I've been saying "cool beans" and doin the "Too Legit to Quit" thing all week since seeing that.

I saw it as a prescreening in the beginning of July. It was like over a month before the movie was to be released. I was skeptical at it being any good, especially since the prescreen was so much earlier than the actual release (usually not a good sign).
As a free movie, I guess I didn't mind it, as it wasnt' a complete waste of 2 hours of my life. But if I had paid money to watch it, I'd be kinda pissed about it. I think it tries too hard to be funny when it's not.

My MSN name right now is 'Cool Beans'.
That was frickin' hystarical.
It is a really dumb movie, but there are some parts that had me in tears...Like the Taco and grilled cheese fighting. My lord, it was so ######ed, yet so funny!

For anybody who hasnt seen it yet, just find the previews online...they cover all the funny parts from the film.

Deoxyribonucleic Acid, for example... sounds impressive, right? But have you ever seen what happens if you put something in acid? It dissolves! If we had all this acid in our cells, we'd all dissolve! So much for the Theory of Evolution, Check MATE!

I thought it seemed that way for the first three or four scenes, in which the parts from the commercial where the main gag from each scene, which kinda sucked. But after about the third or fourth scene, I dont agree with that at all. I think it just comes down to what makes you laugh. I think if you found Napolean Dynamite funny, youll find this movie funny. If you didnt, then you probably wont like this movie either.

Very true. I was forced to watch this as the leadoff to Transformers at a double header.
I think I'd rather watch a Test Pattern.
Dear god this was bad. Very much like Napolean, but less funny. I'm probably too old for this by at least 10 years but at least I could see some of the funny bits in Napolean.

I loved Napoleon Dynamic (first non alcohol date with my girlfriend) but this movie isn't even close. I can't describe what was wrong with it, but I hat very high hopes, and this didnt meet them. Honestly if you haven't seen either one yet, just go to superbad.

Napolean Dynamite was a terrible movie in my mind, and I had tears in my eyes from laughter during Hot Rod. It was completely ######ed, but Soooo funny!
I mean, that richardson kid dancing was enough to crack me up!

I just saw Superbad last night. I thought it was funny, and I also thought it was actually surprisingly very well written too. It had a solid storyline, it ties up well, and you really got into each character's plight. After the first 10 minutes I thought I'd want to kill that fat kid by the end of the movie, but I ended up finding him to be quite likeable, probably even the best of the three.
However I dont see why people say youll be quoting Superbad for the rest of the summer. There were some hilarious parts for sure, but nothing thats really quoteable for the most part(unless you plan on letting go a string of obscenities that would make Joe Pesci blush). I think Superbad was a very good movie, and very well done as well, but overall I laughed harder at Hot Rod. And I'm still quoting a bunch of lines from Hot Rod, whereas there's really nothing you can quote in Superbad, at least that I can remember(besides the "Do you know how many types of foods look like dicks? The best kinds!"..that was gold, Ill use that for months haha).
I really think it just all depends on what your type of humour is. I think Superbad falls into the category of regular teen comedy(though much better done than most lately. Id say that was the best job of character development in a teen comedy since American Pie); lots of swearin and chasin after girls, that sorta stuff. Its an easy movie to watch and the vast majority of people will like it. Whereas Hot Rod falls more along the lines of Napolean Dynamite(though alot faster paced. It doesnt drag at parts like ND did), an odd comedy with a different sense of humour, its not for everyone. Definitely not your typical comedy. I loved it though(I mean tell me the ultimate punch isnt money haha).
Overall I think theyre both solid movies and good for a chuckle. Superbad's the better made movie, but for straight up laughs I prefered Hot Rod.
