Straying here......but I find that Don Cheadle is always very good. He's come a long way from "Rocket".

Before Hotel Rwanda the only other things I seen Cheadle in was the Ocean's 12 and 13 movies, but he was fantastic in Hotel Rwanda. I haven't "felt" that much for a movie character in a while. He annoyed me with his awful british accent in those Ocean's movie but won me over big time in Rwanda.
Just checking his page at imdb.. I have seen several of his movies.. but I can't say I remember him in them.

Knowing you like I do, I'm stunned!
I thought he was the best part of Boogie Nights, well aside from Heather Graham's..um...roller skates.

The first and only time I watched Boogie Knights is when it came out on video.. I beleive I was 15 at the time. I was much much more (only) interested in Heather Graham then the acting of Don Cheadle. I should go rent it again though, and actually watch it. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, John C. Reily, and William H. Macy, that is 3 of my favourite actors right there. What movies aren't those guys brilliant in?

I think it's an underrated film. Burt Reynolds was also great in it.
As for the 3 guys you mentioned, I can't think of a single movie I've seen featurning any of the trio that I didn't think they were absolutely outsanding in.
Take Hoffman for instance......
The Big Lebowski.....brilliant
Almost Famous......even more brilliant
Magnolia......brilliant
Love Liza........unfathomably brilliant
I could go on all night, but you already knew that. :P

By the way, if anyone HASN'T seen Love Liza, go rent it right now. Great performance by the aforementioned Phillip Seyomour Hoffman.

Have you seen Happines with Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Dis?
It is a pretty damn dark movie, a movie I love, but I movie I don't think I want to watch again. You are either going to love this movie, or hate it. But it is worth the rental just for the great performance that Hoffman gives.
Also, I would probably rent the thing for 100 bucks just for the first five minutes. I wish Jon lovitz could act like that more often.
And just for fun, two more Hoffman classics. State and Main, and the 25th hour. Hell even if so-so movies like Twister, Patch Adams. Oh and lets not forget Red Dragon and Owning Mahoney. The guy is a top notch actor.

The first time he really stood out as a great performer to me was a 4 episode stint he did on ER a couple of years ago as an intern with Parkinson's

frankly, i think the Incredibles was the best thing I saw all year, and would not hesitate to go pay to see it twice (sometime i virtually never do).
|
The best movie of 2004, IMO was Collateral.
Tom Cruise as a bad guy was awsome!!! [/b][/quote]
You need lessons on good taste my friend.. Tom Cruise as a bad guy was terrible.. One of the lowest ranked movies I saw all year.. Wow.. Sunil.. You shock me man..

Good call on Owning Mahowney MFF- Hoffman puts on a clinic in that one. If you haven't seen that DFF, rent it.
And what about Don Cheadle in Traffic? He was superb in that.

I echo other comments. I'm shocked MMF that you haven't seen more from Cheadle. Have yourself a little Cheadle film fest. Chech out Devil in a Blue Dress (with Denzel Washington - in my opinion Cheadle's best performance though I haven't seen Rwanda yet). A must see.

The best movie I saw all year was Harold & Kumar Goes to Whitecastle, I would place Ladder 49 a close second. And I maintain that Leo DiCrappio is ghey, so is all the movies he was in, damn I hate that guy and his puny limbs.

How's this for a topic we'll never agree on
Going to have to disagree with you Ro, I thought KB1 and particularly KB2 were far too over hyped. I've had this debate with friends - if you took all the blood and gore out of Tarantino's movies, would they get half the hype they do now? Doesn't he use violence as a crutch to take him from OK to hype?
I've always though that there are movies for entertainment (Harold and Kumar)and movies for artistic value. (Thin Red Line) Which is why we get such varying tastes.
I'm glad to see that neither F911 or Passion got nominated too much. Neither did much for you if you didn't subscribe to to their faiths. My favorite one-line review of Passion was from a Toronto newspaper review who called it "Fundamentalist Pr0nography"
I did see Finding Neverland. Good movie (artistic) but I don't know if it had the oomph to propel it to Best Picture status. Fellas, I will say that if you need a good Valentine's Day movie to see with the g/f or wife, pick this. Oh and bring Kleenex. Just a helpful public service announcement....

If there's one thing I've learned in knowing him for 7 years, it's that good taste can't be taught. :P

The little lady asked what we were doing for the weekend and I already told her I am renting a couple of Don Cheadle movies one night. She didn't run away pondering what drug I was on so it looks to be a go. Devil in a Blue Dress looks like a must, any other?

Boogie Nights even if you just watched it yesterday. I swear it never gets old. They should just put that on spike tv or tbs so people can watch it everyday instead of bloodsport and total recall.

Since this seems to be the obligitory random movie thread now I will add this. Has anyone seen Brain Donors? It came out about 10 years ago now, and its one of hte funniest movies ever. It stars John Tuturro, one of the most underrated actors today, as Ronald T. Flakfizer, a scheming lawyer. It is basically a rip off.. pardon me, an homage to the Marx Brothers but it is great from start to finish.
Anyone?

yeah i watched it a couple times on superchannel when it first came out. That was a while ago but I am sure it holds up. David Paymer (aka "that guy") was in it as well if I remember correctly. I hope I can find it. Thanks for the reminder.
edit- I guess "that guy" was not in it, but I have definitely seen it.

MMF keeps talking about how Paul Giamatti was so great in American Splendor.. So I thought I'd check it out.. I put off renting it for about a month and finally saw it last weekend.. God damn he's quite possibly my new favourite actor, he nails Harvey Peakar to a tee.. Brilliant movie too.. Dammit..
As for Cheadle.. He's pretty good in Traffic, so is Topher Grace, that's a powerful flick.
