I think we can all agree Ann Coulter is Crazy...
...but she makes at least one good point:
I only want the western part, with the ski areas, the cowboys, and the right wingers. They're the only good parts of Canada.
http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Ann_Coulter
My political views are slightly to the right, but this woman is just nuts. At my most right wing of moments I couldn't have concieved of a person (even if she's more of just a character by now) that would have these types of beliefs. Wow.
Anyway, that link is just a page of quotes that I thought some of us might get a kick out of reading. I'm sure some interesting discussions will come out of it. What's the best way to get these discussions going? Ummm, read the page, pick a quote of hers, and describe why you like it (agree, disagree, laughed your keester off...).
Here is mine:
We are simultaneously supposed to gasp in awe at teachers' raw dedication and be forced to listen to their incessant caterwauling about how they don't make enough money. Well, which is it? Are they dedicated to teaching tomorrow's future or are they in it for the money? After all the carpiing about how little teachers are paid, if someone enters the teaching procession for the big bucks, aren't they too stupid to be teaching our kids? As if it's immoral for somebody to want to teach the children and be able to afford to put hot dogs in their Western Family Mac and Cheese.

Is she crazed? No, she has an opinion like everyone else, maybe they're batsh#t crazy.
but she's canny and smart enough to have made a exceptional living from getting on T.V., writing books and getting posted in Newspapers, and she knows what sells.

No argument about that part. I just can't believe she can be so outrageous, and still get the consideration that she does (from many) as a spokespearson for the right wing.
I think she's gone a little too far to just be considered right wing. If she played for the Flames, she would line in in section 314 for opening faceoffs (that's very far to the right...look: http://flames.nhl.com/team/app/?serv...bcid=tic_seats)

I can't believe some of the stuff she says either.
One thing I have learned from having a teacher in the family....is that they always work longer hours...have more stress, and have less free time than everyone else.

She is a bit like Don Cherry now. She is so deep into her schtick, she has to say more and more outrageous things to get attention. Who knows if she really believes anything she says? It makes her $.

I fall on the right side of the spectrum as well, and only conservative icon not directly associated with politics in the US that I can stand is Sean Hannitty. Ann Coulter is just a cold, evil witch.

What is scary about Ann Coulter (besides her, physically) isn't that she may or may not believe what she says, but that the people making her a millionaire do.
And those people actually vote.
*shudder*

She sells for the same reason shock-jock radio sells..and it sells to a wide range of people.
People pay attention to her because they hate her, love her and because they are voyours.

Most teachers I know work from 8 to about 4:30 with a bunch of breaks in between. Of course they also have to mark a few spelling tests and math quizzes, but the smart ones just get the kids to pass it one back and mark them in class.
I had some math teachers in high school that would have worked some extra hours but most don't. The main challenge in the job is babysitting the misfit kids, I couldn't handle that aspect.

Ann is a complete disgrace to human kind, and anyone that takes her serious is a complete idiot.
As for your teacher comment, you really dont know the real teachers. The ones that take there job serious and do a very good job. If you had to work like they did, you would have a much better appreciation to teaching.

Meh. So teachers work so unpaid overtime and have to take work home with them. So what? We've all had teachers that show up 5 minutes before the school day starts and beat the kids out the door. (I had several, so I assume others had some). At any rate I'm not about to feel sorry for anyone that gets 7 weeks of summer vacation, plus two at Christmas, and numerous bonus days during the actual working year.
Good on them for having a union with that kind of power, but it doesn't make me respect them as hard workers.

I am so tired of people like you that think teachers have such a sweet gig. If you only really knew. They deal with all the problems that parents can't handle. Send them to school and let the teachers deal with these kids. Not to mention the hours and hours of overtime that they put in every day for class prep, assignment marking and test marking. If you balanced out the amount of hours they put in over the school year they are probably the ones that are getting screwed.
It is so unbelievable how people like you can sit on your high horse and say how well they have it. I know so many people that go to work and have no worries at all. If I get moy work done...I get it done. If not...I will get it done tomorrow. Or...I think I will take my client out for golf or dinner today. I really wished our society worked on the basis of how much work people did and not what rank they held in some company....because there would be may sales people, vp's and presidents that would be making minimum wage.

Yup, because a person with a different job doesn't have to deal with anything. Sure teachers have to deal with problems parents can't handle. But guess where those problems go when they are done with school? They move onto the real world and now work under me (at least that's how it seems). Of course now they have legal access to booze, and can find drugs way easier. So that probably makes them easier to handle. At least after a year I can move them to the next level of employment and they'll be out of my hair. Oh wait.
Of course I have to deal with jerk suppliers, contractors, competitors, vendors, permit agencies, and whoever else pisses me off on a day to day basis. Somehow I don't think teachers have to struggle with as wide a variety of issues.
At least I take solace in knowing teachers are the only profession to work overtime. Because I haven't done any of that. Nor has any other worker. But just to compare, last week, the owner of the small company I work for worked 70 hours. How many hours did the average teacher work last week? The week before? Next week?
Now this year was an oddity for me because I took January off on parental leave, and I didn't work for another months because I quit a job. All in all 8 weeks of not working is pretty good for me. Of course those 8 weeks are still less then what a teacher gets every year. But at least I don't have to deal with any stress. Or overtime. Or problem underlings.
Teachers: So hard done by. See you in September.

You having a few lazy teacher in your past doesn't make all of them lazy.
There are incompetent people in every field of work.
Nor does vacation time dictate how 'hard working' a job is. I am a student teacher and I assure you, I have had the pleasure of studying under many hard working teachers.
I pity you for never having some of these amazing teachers in your life.

The ignorance here is nearly overpowering.
In most other professions, you work under a written and signed contract. Half the time teachers are getting paid they are working under an expired contract because their employer is too damn lazy to get another one decided on. Further to this and compounding the issue is that teachers do not get bonus's nor any other sort of enhancement. They barely even get raises to match inflation.
At least if you work overtime you know that you may be rewarded for it at some point down the road. Teachers now are expected to do overtime (extracurricular programs) as part of their job.
If your really so bitter about the vacation time, why arn't you a teacher? If they have is great, why are you doing something else. Last I heard, those vacation weeks are unpaid (as in two months without a check). But I could be wrong here...

When I taught high school there was rampant theft, an attempted rape of a teacher and a stabbing, somehow I don't think you dealt with the same issues. But, good on you for belittling other people's jobs that you know nothing about.

Crusader, if teaching is such a sweet gig, why don't you sign up? After all, you get SO MUCH vacation, and you couldn't possibly deal with ANYTHING worse than a "jerk supplier" ... and 3 MONTHS OF VACATION!!!!
Good grief. Don't even get me started.
