I actually contemplated the fire idea myself. Just dowsing it in gasoline in the alley and letting it go would be awesome. The neighbours might complain about the large billows of black smoke it would produce. Then I'd probably be left with the problem of how to dispose of a mostly burnt up matress.

I have donated mattresses to Salvation Army, but I had to take it in and they inspect it first. It has to be in good shape, and no stains, spoiled areas whatsoever.
It does not sound like the mattress in question meets these standards.

nah leave it in the alley and dial 311 and tell em some burnt up a matress and the remains are sitting in the middle of the alley. They got the rabbit infront of our house in just over 45 minutes the other day.

Just as an FYI- the dump charges a minimum of $5, but that covers the first 250kg. After 250kg it's about $50 per tonne. (Guess how ticked I was the time I ended up having 260kg of stuff.)
